Neat. Another play on numbers/date/time.

This time we have 08.09.10 11:12

Too bad I slept past 11:12am today.

I'll see if I can remember to post exactly on time for this. Being PST, I still have 3 hours

Yep. I get off at 10:30.

Now all I have to do is be out of the shower in time and remember 11:12.

I changed the thread title cause 05:06:07 08/09/10 sounds better.

Shame I'll be at work.

I prefer 8/9/10 11:12. Cause thats in less than 2 hours now for me. I'll probably miss 05:06:07 since I don't post much in the evenings.

Besides military, who really goes by the 24 hour clock? I had a watch one time that could show either type and I left it on military time for a while just because.

I remember hearing about a receipt from somewhere that had the date printed as:

1/2/03 04:05:06 789

Or something like that, it had all the numbers in sequence exactly with the date and some code at the end.

Let's see if I can time this correctly... I'm sitting here at the reply screen waiting to hit the button.

Edit: Success!

The 24-hour clock is standard in most of Europe, actually, at least for written times. Like, instead of using the Latin "AM" and "PM", they'll just use 1:00 for the morning or 13:00 for the afternoon. I like the system, it makes sense to me, and over there it's used for stuff like train and bus schedules and opening times too. At least in Germany. They also use 12-hour time, but mostly only in speech like "Meet me at 5" to mean 17:00.

Another weird date milestone, hm. It's also unusually cool today where I live.

I never really understood AM/PM, I always had to count +12 for PM to *get* the actual time.

Same thing with the date systems. I can get day. month. year (local), year-month-day (preffered), but month/day/year ? It's... totally out of order. :x

I think when you put it numerically, like 04/25/10, then it makes less sense... but in the US we're used to saying "April 25th" as opposed to "25th of April", since it's shorter and easier and Americans are lazy. So when translated into a quick number format, we keep the fact that we refer to the month first.

I think. :s Makes sense to me at least. I always get thrown off when the day is first and the month is second, even if it makes sense in terms of order.

I'm one of those who actually doesn't get why "mm-dd-yyyy" doesn't make sense ... yet I tend to use 24-hour time fairly often. (Actually, probably more than 12-hour time.)

Yeah, my senses of time are ENTIRELY screwed, too. Nothing new to me.

If you don't grow up with M-D-Y, you tend to think it's odd

Also, it has the most specific thing (the day) in the middle, so I guess it's like how German numbers are said being confusing for English speakers. Like, "135" is einhundertfünfunddreißig, mentioning the digits in the order 1-5-3 but the number is 135, not 153.

Hmm, maybe when we reach 10 November 2012 at 13:14:15, we should definitely talk about it. I'm more used to d.m.yyyy myself, as well as 24-hour time. =P

If not forced to use a specific all-numeric format, I tend to use the ISO Y-M-D format for dates, with leading zeroes. If a form wants a different order, I'll use that order. For separators, I usually use the hyphen.
