Are you sure that isn't the workgroup? I know the workgroup name usually defaults to MSHOME or WORKGROUP, but computer names usually default to junk (usually owner name + random string of numbers)

I name mine after animé characters, but before that it was planets and other space-related crap. This works out nicely because Mercury (this computer), Venus (old POS that exploded) and Luna (laptop) all happen to be character names as well. Descriptions tend to be non-funny and drive names just generic summaries of their contents (System, Files etc).
That makes two people I know who use anime-related names for their systems ... heh.

I usually just name my harddrives crap (literally, "Crap [C:]") or don't name them at all, but I suppose now is as good a time as ever to change it... maybe to something a little less crap-related

(but what? I already know what D: will be named...)

Well, might as well list all the computers I've had.

FAILSERVER - Old 200Mhz 64MB RAM computer that had network/audio/video/HD/mouse/keyboard/monitor.

SUKASATOP - This Lappy.

And I can't remember the name of the Pentium II 350Mhz. that died (BIOS). Outlasted by te FAILSERVER, of all things. Interesting enough, this computer was the only one to not have a PhoenixBios (brand name), and it's the onlyt one to have died. XD

I decided to name mine Junkman. Just yesterday. Because of where it is.
(though I have no idea what I named the computer officially. )

Was it an Award BIOS, by any chance?

Anyways, let's see what names I've given them. No, these aren't the names used for networking, since the majority can't network. Or run Windows.

Laptop - A shiny, somewhat new, laptop. No other name has been given to it.
New Compaq - My computer. It's probably the best desktop computer I've got.
eMachine - The family computer. What more do I need to say?
Craptop - A laptop in need of a fan and a hard disk. Thus the name.
Old Compaq - A computer that would have been a server if the memory slots hadn't suddenly crapped out.
MIDI Machine - This is Safe. It has a Sound Blaster Awe64, so MIDIs sound really nice on it.
Computer 1 - The original, custom built Pentium 133 system. It was upgraded multiple times to have additional disk/diskette drives. This computer is the reason I learned so much about computers, ever since corrupted CMOS prevented it from booting. The BIOS died spectacularly shortly after I decided to make it into a server.
Compy 386 - The oldest computer of the bunch, running on an AMD. It has a dead battery, which caused great fun when I had to open it up and find the hard disk parameters. This is the only computer with a working turbo button.
Lappy 486 - A rather old laptop. It runs Windows 95, which was a joy to install without a CD drive. The only thing that makes it unique is the mouse, which is a trackball next to the screen with buttons on the back. It's rather annoying if you're left-handed.
Unintelligent Design - When I lifted it up to move it, I thought it was rather lightweight for a computer. When I opened it up, I wondered what kind of deranged mind thought this up. This computer contains a motherboard with onboard everything. Video, sound, modem, you name it and it was integrated on the motherboard. The stupidity is the layout. Everything plugs in around the 2 PCI slots, including the IDE and floppy disk cables. The onboard video failed shortly after I decided to make it into a server, and the CPU is a quarter inch too close to the PCI slots, so I can't use a different video card.
The Tall Tower - This is the tallest of the bunch, giving new meaning to "computer tower". The broken CPU cooling fan/heatsink makes me hesitant to have it on for longer than a few minutes, although the fanless heatsink I installed seems to work fine.
Computer 2 - This is Computer 1 with a "new" motherboard and CPU. However, Intel was nice enough to permanently attach the fan/heatsink combo to the CPU, and I don't have a power cable for the fan. This computer will have to wait.
The Silent One - This is your average, everyday, completely nonfunctional computer. Today, I decided to replace the power supply, and now it works. I think I'll make it into a server.
The Bomb - Somebody set me up the bomb! Seriously, though, it's an eMachine T2742. Those of you who don't know, that's one of the models that tends to explode after a while. I got this one already exploded, so it's only good for spare parts.

Edit 1: More emphasis on the names.
Edit 2: Added one I forgot. Oops.

Nah, I actually changed it to that for fun by default it was probably John.JOHN-QDHR91KXOF (which is the shitty name it gave my account since I already had a folder called John).
