A Florida church plans to burn Qurans on the 9th anniversary of the attacks, claiming Islam to be a violent religion and the source of the Devil.

Of note is that among the expected Muslim lashback, some Evangelicals are even against this event.

Now excuse me while I wonder why humans even exist.

They exist to be fallible.

We're living up to our reason for existing

Well gee, this is totally going to make Muslims not hate America.

Also, poking this nest full of hornets with a stick is a good idea!

(The true solution lies in trying to make a common dialogue between cultures; additionally, withdrawing from the screwed up Israel situation and instead trying to settle that whole thing in a balanced fashion. Removing our imperialist claws from Afganistan and Pakistan as well and then making it clear it was a mistake in the first place could then work. If we put all those fancy war dollars into terrorism prevention, after all, we'd not only have more jobs, but make it dang hard to blow something up here.)

But you got to admit that when even the Evangelical church detests this that not all of the more extreme sects are 100% horrible and detrimental. Sure, some of them do facepalm-worthy things, but the religious folk who are extreme make up a small percentage of said religion overall.

That said, this church seems to hold the idea that the extremist Muslim image made by the media is 100% factual and feels the need to do something about it. I remember this one presentation we had to go to during English held by a practicing Muslim, and in all reality the majority of the religion's against the actions done by their more violent brethren.

Protip: Jesus is considered a prophet in the Muslim faith, but not considered to be the son of God, but rather an ordinary man. Much like how Moses is considered to be a great man but isn't considered the greatest in Christianity, and vice versa in Judaism.

It's great to learn, 'cause knowledge is power!

Can I burn a bunch of Bibles for every time a Christian commits a crime against humanity?

Oh wait. I'd be burning shit every damn day. What an isolated group of individuals does is in no way representative of a billion followers of a religion. I'm a Jewish convert, but I actually seriously considered converting to a form of Sunni Islam because I see quite a bit that the two hold in common in practice and belief. The fact that myopic evangelicals (who often stretch the meaning of "Christian" in my eyes to a point where I don't think it's a valid label) can't see the great commonalities they have with nearly every religious believer in the world enrages me.

Then again, these are the same folks who are more concerned with the one time homosexuality is mentioned in Leviticus than the dozens of times shunning opulence and helping the poor is mentioned in the Gospels. They've never had their priorities in a truly Christian fashion.

These are the newsmakers of christians because they are doing hateful stupid shit. Its what people want to read about. You don't hear about the groups that are actually living as a church body as Jesus taught because that's boring to everyone else. They would never do something as retarded as this.

Who's the violent religion here? I don't really see Muslims burning the Bible or anything That may be because I'm living under a rock right now, but seriously. "Love thy enemies" was apparently never taught to them

Lack of tolerance and acts of hatred from groups that claim to be the most holy and loving really piss me off. If you're going to be hateful, don't use religion as an excuse. I would probably be more respectful of a person who says "I'm a bigot and proud of it and will never change" than a person who says "I'm doing it because the Bible tells me so."

Not that the Bible actually even says "be racist." You can take any passage and twist the meaning around so much that its new warped state says something wretched like that. Unfortunately, people do this far too often.

Most of these bigots probably haven't even met a Muslim. It's probable that they get all their information from major media outlets which mainly focus on negative aspects and dumbass findings. I can't believe loons like Pamela Geller are frequently invited to CNN. Humans need to realize that we are all the same. I truly and honestly believe that most conflicts that occur between religions and such aren't due to specific ideology but rather division. The fact that there exists two groups of people who have different beliefs. No matter how similar they are(i.e. Judaism and Islam), divisions are created and lead to conflict.

I think a lot of bigotry is caused by that kind of stuff. Take it from me, an ex-bigot who now is very opposed to all forms of bigotry. I mostly grew up in conservative places where pretty much everyone around was a White heterosexual Christian, so I didn't really get to meet a lot of types of people. When that happens, some people sadly just "fill in" details based on stereotypes. Like "Hey, there's a Black person, I know from MTV that they're just gangsters and hoes and dangerous killers, so I'm going to hate them" even though you never met that specific person and don't know what they're really like. They see Muslim terrorists on the news and think that all Muslims are terrorists. And so on. I've had to work hard to overcome that stuff that I was bombarded with since childhood. Some people, sadly, never overcome it and just stay bigoted forever.

It's funny/sad really. As a South Asian Muslim myself growing up in a mainly Irish/Italian Catholic NJ suburb, I always knew what it was like to be different and always opposed stereotypes since they are always ridiculous. Question everything so that your convictions are resolute.

I didn't know I was "expected" to be violent and not get along with Jews until I was a bit older and heard others say those kinds of things to me. I always thought that if I and other Muslims I know are nonviolent and rational people, then where do these accusations come from?
