I can't even get the whole site to load now, actually.

Malle Goedzak says (3:41 PM):
Maybe if I hear it from some trustworthy source... But I'm not like one of those "LHC gon destroy world" people
Peardian says (3:41 PM):
wait, that's the solution! We'll fire the LHC at the sea floor and suck up all the methane in a black hole :specialed:
Malle Goedzak says (3:42 PM):
hahaha

Hmm, I wonder if my granddad's old nuclear bunker out in North Dakota would come in use for such an event...

Yep, it seems the site is down now...

According to the Telegraph, the oil rig explosion was actually caused by a methane bubble.

Here's another article with mostly the same information as the first one: http://www.indiadaily.com/editorial/21565.asp

I'm starting to doubt that the effects are going to be as exaggerated as the first article made them seem.

It may not be true, but I'm stil scared nonetheless. Which is unusual. I always ignore the "END OF THE WORLD OMFG" proclamations.

Same here. Mostly because this one has a precedent. Granted, it is several tens/ hundreds of millions of years before our time, but nonetheless, it has happened before, and with all the methane that's coming up, it seems that it could happen again

If you're going to try to forge something, either make it good enough that people have to spend hours trying to find it, or make it so horrible that it becomes a joke

Looks like the explosive methane bubble of death has been debunked. There is a methane bubble, but it won't cause a mass extinction.

Man...I knew that stuff posted yesterday was pretty fishy, but the mental imagery alone still scared the living hell out of me (having anxiety problems doesn't help). Thanks for lowering my heartrate a couple orders of magnitude, Terra.

My jaded skepticism about the end of the world being 'too good to be true' continues.

Face it. The reason humanity hasn't been destroyed yet is so they can suffer more by continuing to exist.

It'd be too easy if a big bubble just killed everyone. That's not how the world rolls. When things die, they usually have a slow, horrible extinction process relating to things like another species killing them off, the planet slowly becoming too toxic/hot/cold for them, or a disease slowly slaying them all.

Oh, I'm sure a few of the things he did (or didn't do) have accelerated our demise by a few years.

Glad to have called bullshit on that one, just like the other "Oh nose! Gas bubble!" Sensationalist bullshit media at work.

Fun fact: Farts produce methane (usually)!
