I was not planning on spending nearly 5 hours playing this game with Rahan (on a public server no less).

It all started because I joined #nethack, saw funny kill messages, started watching, got Rahan to watch too, and well from there it just kind of went bonkers.

Yes, especially since the game will give you a MAJOR luck penalty if you destroy multiple boulders.

I had to do a lot of bolder-crossing, and the Scroll of Earth really wasn't that helpful... needless to say, yeah, -6 luck really didn't help me there.

Might want to look up a spoiler file since it *is* Sokoban, after all... and there's only 8 possible puzzle layouts.

I used to watch this guy play NetHack in class occasionally. I've heard it's ridiculously hard.

Also, I notice that the inventory list indicates a lot of things as "uncursed". Are curses on items that common?

Oh, I was reading spoilers like a bastard, rest assured. Still working on some things, though.

At least it's not as embarassing as some of the other deaths. I'm actually kind of proud to have made it to Sokoban!


(Also, the cheating in Sokoban was because of a really bad move I made on the second map, pushing a boulder and making a set of 3+wall immobile and blocking off a bunch of other ones. Really really bad idea there.)

1. Nymph A steals my main weapon and some armor
2. I think it teleported behind a boulder, try polymorphing said boulder with my last charge
3. The fucking boulder polymorphs into another nymph and runs off with my secondary weapon and armor
4. I have no food left and am on a mad dash to try to get my shit back
5. Give up, go down to next level while hungry/weak
6. Yellow Mold is the only thing left to eat
7. Oh god


I will say that hallucinating is arguably one of the funniest things I've seen.

I could have survived if I focused in attacking the giant spider... or if I bothered to read more about the game before instead of playing blindly. Durrr.

I started playing nethack a couple of days ago, now insanely addicted. Best death so far: nearly to Sokoban, then killed by a unicorn after my polymorphed pet baby dragon devoured the oracle of Delphi (and I stupidly hesitated to polymorph the unicorn because the horn's useful right??? Durrrrrr)
