Going to visit my dad and grandmother on one of my days off. Need to take the cats to the vet on the Tuesday of my vacation. My cousin comes into town that Tuesday to Friday so we might hang out, hit up Hooters on the beach (something he does every time he comes down). Might do some local things that I've never done before or that I haven't done in a while. Beach. More beach. I plan to write a lot. Maybe a museum and Miami Seaquarium.

Okay, scratch a lot of that out. Found out we only have about $100 during the vacation week. That figures. Looks like I'll be at the beach for most of it then. Or home.

We're supposed to be going camping at some point. At this point, though, there aren't any official plans. Which means we're probably just going to talk about it and never actually go

I would love to go camping! I've only done it once or twice before back when I was younger and in girl scouts.

The only time when I went camping was on my 8th birthday 6 years ago, it was thundering down with rain and it put me off ever doing it again

I've gone camping a lot, first in a tent and then in a pop-up RV.

It was fun when I was a kid, but as I entered teenagerhood I often found it dull and spent a lot of time playing Zelda on my GBA Plus, often we'd go to the same parks year after year, almost always in Michigan.

I would love to have a summer vacation, but the most I can get is a four day holiday.

Stupid army and "sorry, no holidays, you're having training session today".

In college, I usually had about a month off in the summer. I took summer classes and worked, but my job was at the same university, so when the school was closed, I didn't have to go to work either (although I also received no pay).

Wow, makes me wonder what a "nan" is and how do I get one? Thats about $900 US.

My advice, save it. Set your sights on something you really want or do and put it towards that. I know it never sounds fun to save money, but when you get older than 21 you realize the truth in it.

I second the saving proposal. It allows you to live for quite a while during periods of unemployment without running out of money Also, if you are employed, you can save up for a new computer or a car or a vacation or whatever else you want.

In England nan means your mum's mum (whatever it called in the land of confusion)

Interesting. Here, it's just "grandmother" and variations (grandma, granny, etc.) usually for both grandmothers, I think. With my family, on my mom's side I had Meme and Pepe, and on my dad's side Grandma and Grandpa, but outside the family I'd usually just use the more standard terms for my mom's side.

Also, a mum in the USA is a flower Most people should understand either mom or mum for mother, but mum is uncommon.

I figured it was a relative, I was leaning towards aunt. I thought you said Gran? I remember hearing it in Harry Potter. I guess thats not the best way to learn English English though...

I always call my Grandmother 'nan' or 'nanny', I called her that as long as I remember.
On my mum's side of the family my grandad was known as 'pupa' just because he didn't want to sound like an old man
