YouTube is another one of those sites that no longer supports IE 6 or Firefox 2... good riddance to IE 6, but some people still use Firefox 2 since they don't like Firefox 3+... =/ ____________________ YouTube • DeviantArt |

| I just got done fixing an office comp that had IE6/McAfee on it. Changed it out with IE8 and Avast! instead.
You wouldn't believe the amount of difference it had on that poor system. The amount of dumb integrations IE6 had on an OS was ridiculous. |

I eventually gave up on that one. ____________________ |

On that matter. I can imagine IE6 getting quickly obsolete in Arab countries and Russia, since these increasingly use internationalized domain names which are not supported by IE6.
It will take somewhat longer for the Western countries though. ____________________ |

And updating from 6 to 7 won't do much good, it still sucks (8 is a little better, 9 won't run on XP) Even Mozilla 1.2.1 from 2002 does much better in Acid3 (barely worse than Firefox 2), but it's starting to fail on newer sites as well ...
As for dropping support for Internet Explorer 6, YouTube already did a few months ago (but still mostly works), and Google shows the old layout ... I'm sure many more will follow within a few years once Windows XP becomes a minority (it's still at 50% for now, and Internet Explorer 6 near 20%), for obvious reasons ![]() ____________________ |

Paulguy's Post configuration Yeah I've seen plenty of commercials for Windows 7 and Mojave. I even recall a either 95 or 98 commercial as a commercial before a movie on a VHS tape when I was little.
As for websites not supporting IE6... I don't think many have exactly declared dropping support as much as just silently added features that breaks the functionality in IE6. Nice to see that we're moving on to better things. ____________________ |

Heh, this has been (and probably will be) a discussion point forever.
I supported IE6 for a very long time, but just recently started using PNG images and such (and no, no PNG 'hack' either), instead of a bazillion GIF images for a templated website with different background colors. As long as the website/application is usable/functioning properly with IE6, I'm fine with it. People that persist on using that antique browser, will have to cope with gray backgrounds behind my images and charts. ![]() |
