Would you rather buy a PC game or download it from a place like Steam?
Disc = Disc. Download = From Steam or a similar download program. Both = I don't care either way and I don't mind which was I get the game, as long as I get it. Depends = If there's a collector's edition or some incentive by getting the disc as oppose to downloading it.

When it comes to buying a PC game, would you rather have the actual disc or download it?

I would say that it depends. Now, I don't buy games often, but when I do I tend to want a hard copy of it.

But, games that have a lot of online gameplay factors, or if the price is better, then I would rather buy it off an online service.

I like digital downloads more and more each day. For games like World of Warcraft or StarCraft 2, they're tied to your account and can be downloaded to any PC. I would still like to have a physical copy, but I don't mind not having one.

I'd rather download it. Disks can easily get lost, dirty, or broken, and I don't like having to root through all my CDs and DVDs to find the one for playing a particular game.

Also, I get the game right away rather than going to the store and risking them not having it.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Both have their own benefits. A physical copy can be protected, kept and easily distributed long after the company has gone under.

Downloads actually can stay around a long time, too, because of the number of downloads they may get, and the systems they're on. The issue with this is if the company goes under, and they never release the game as freeware or whatever, it'd be an effort to crack the software, or it may never happen if the software wasn't very popular, and there's the risk of it just disappearing in to oblivion, which would be kinda saddening.

Physical media can get ruined, and also has a lifetime of it's own, too, so digital downloads may be a bit more "durible" over time, assuming enough people downloaded the game, and people have backed it up.

I prefer having most of my stuff in a physical format. So, discs.

I absolutely hate optical formats. That said, I'd rather have that, than a download, so I'd probably buy something then just pirate it

I like Blizzard's way of doing things. Buy a disc, put in the CD Key, and even if you lose the disc, you can always download it.

Edit: But if push comes to shove, I'd rather have the disc.

Downloading. You know why?

I used to buy everything on disc.

THEN THE DISCS PHYSICALLY BEGAN TO CRACK AND DISINTEGRATE OVER 10 YEARS.

They ain't as durable as you think, guys. You'll have to keep a digital backup of some kind, otherwise you're in for a bad time if you remember Civ II and try playing it 10 years after buying it.

Um, are you aware of Steam?

A lot of Steam games are the same as games available in brick-and-mortar retailers in the form of optical media in a box It's not just little amateur games available on the Internet these days. (Although amateur isn't synonymous with bad anyway, at least to a retro gamer like me.)

Might have reconsider downloadable games, the only thing that really poses a problem is space issues, something that I haven't really had a problem with.

I generally prefer physical discs, since I can sell them once I'm done.. but I do love what Steam offers. It depends.

Really leaning towards download at the moment thanks to the awesomeness of Steam. At least it's convenient and there's no sifting through discs to re-install games.

I'll go with discs for major releases, though... then again, I haven't bought a physical copy of a PC game in forever. StarCraft II will be the first in a looooooooong time.

Major Wii releases are kinda bound to the disc format, due to the lack of a Nintendo-approved hard drive.

Yea, Nintendo really should of had internal hard drive even if it would add ~£50 to the asking price
