And hell, if you change the "Proto Route 104"'s map header to increase the map's dimensions (from 1x1 to 40x40 or whatever), change the map's offset to something empty in the ROM (I just added a bunch of 0x00's at the end of it) and then have a warp like ex. the one to the lab in the first town point to the one on the proto map, you get yourself something like this:



"Welcome to the world of Pokemon!!" just like at 1:33 in the video.



The trainer at 2:01 in the video.

Has anyone actually accessed these maps in-game before like this?

EDIT: Just tried this in the US version as well, the above was the Japanese version. And the text has been translated into English there - the guy blocking the path into the forest saying that all the trainers there have different Pokemon and are waiting for you, the sign saying "Welcome to the World of POKéMON!", the girl inside the flower shop saying that they're going to start the shop in autumn, etc.

Is the actual map data entirely trashed, or might it still be lurking around? Seems kind of silly to delete the area but none of the NPCs it had.

Why should it have been deleted? Just point to the right map, the one that is currently in the game, and it should work, shouldn't it?

If I understand it right, just point the Proto's map header to the final Route 104's map, as actually used in-game? That one's way different, compared to the Proto one:

Looking at the Festa video, the map's overall design is similar to the final version, but in detail it's quite different.

EDIT: Adjusted the final's map offset to line up its Flower Shop's door with the proto events:

Ah, I wasn't aware of it being that different... Have you already looked for the actual map data? If the block data is not too different, it might still be in there, although chances are it isn't

I didn't really look for the data yet, besides checking out the data in the vicinity of the original map offset (0x2D1EC0, Japanese ROM) and of the offset of the Proto Flower Shop's map (0x2AD00C). There is map data that looks like your typical Route around there, but I don't think it's the data we need, considering I saw hills and such in there.

Then again, I'm not exactly sure about any Route in the game since I haven't really played R/S/E in ages, so I can't tell all that well what's used and what's not ^^"

Actually I just took JAP Ruby and looked myself. Sadly, I couldn't find any map data pertaining to a second flower show (outside). I did look for the actual map data values as well as relative matches to that data.

^-- This is the actual data for the lower row of wall tiles and entrance to the flower shop. They probably deleted the map data, but kept the events just in case.

Well, at least part of the map still exists, even if it's just the events. And by using them and the Festa video as a guideline, I tried recreating the part of the map that can be seen in the video:



As I said, this is a recreation, I sadly did NOT find the original map data in there either. Also, the stupid solidity is giving me a headache, so playing it is a bit glitchy, but it's at least nice to look at

I figured I'd register for this. Thank you to whomever found out about this prototype Route 104 map It inspired me to recreate the Ruby Festa demo (using Advance Map and a bunch of other utilities) xdaniel, thank you for posting that map recreation. It help me see that I had some objects off by a bit. I might post a topic in the ROM Hacking section detailing how far the project is (it's about 60-70% complete, only with some more mapping to finish it).
