D: I accidentally quick-reformatted my 1 terrabite HD. I used the disk function in HxD and I found strings mentioning my files. I have no idea what to do from here.

Thanks,

oaa

Recover my files, its not free but there are methods... if you know what I mean. Another one is Get Data Back.

Here's another one you can try.

It's completely free but not very featureful, and you'll need a destination to copy the files to that's not the original drive, but more options doesn't hurt, right?

That isn't a bad thing, to be honest as copying to the same drive runs the risk of overwritting files you want to recover.

Well, I imagine some fancier tools could just reconstruct the file/inode/whatever table for whatever particular filesystem he's using.

Damn, that sucks.

Reminds me when my Maxtor hard-drive with many important files failed. As far as I remember, it was actually a firmware problem which required using some pirate Russian programs to correct, but I never found the exact image I needed .

I had a boot sector virus back in 2004, which rendered my drive unbootable; however, I managed to recover all the data a few years later, and saved it to a hard drive image. =D

I've lost a hard drive before, just overnight, it stopped working. It doesn't work at all when I plug it in, it isn't spinning, doesn't make any sounds... I'm going to try and get it recovered when it isn't so pricely :/

Yea, when I was moving to my current place several months ago, I think a static shock destroyed my 8GB hard drive that was in my old computer... it wouldn't even boot, and gave me that box-drawing-character floppy icon that old computers liked to give back in the day, as well as a couple of beeps. =/

I got a nice zap from an 8GB USB stick when I went to pull it out of a machine. This machine had some leakage from the USB port to the headphone jack, so you could actually hear data as noise. When I tried it again I'd just hear several seconds of buzzing before it finally showed up as an empty removable drive.
