Ok, I might be the only individual in existance who can actually perceive this, but...

When you have a burger, you have to consume it immediately, otherwise, if you let it sit out for too long, or if you put it in the fridge and eat it the next day, it'll develop this really disgusting, rancid taste.

Denny's burgers taste like this constantly now, which upsets me, because I loved the slamburger!

But yeah, if we make homemade burgers, I noticed that they can't sit for too long before developing the gross taste.

Does anyone know what this is, why this happens, and how to prevent this?

I don't notice it. Weird. Then again, I have this with milk. If milk is even in the fridge too long, and isn't ice cold... blech. I won't drink it.

Generally a side effect of eating cold fat Either drain the fat or wipe it off with a kitchen towel.

George Foreman Grill

Best way to get rid of the fat. Burgers are fine the next day. But this is a typical symptom of reheating any cooked meat. Dry and never tastes the same.

I've reheated a lot of grilled meat that tastes just as good the next day so I think it's something to do with all the grease cooling and setting into the bun / burger overnight or whatever.

They sold pre-packaged burgers along with hot pockets and little pizza things in the dorm room vending machines

Apparently they were not bad, but I'll pass and get chips instead. Not too much can go wrong with a bag o' chips; plenty can go wrong with a burger that has had lord-knows-what treatment.

I could never eat one. I can only imagine how soggy/ rancid/ gross they are.

I have noticed this with burgers as well.. the same rules apply to french fries, also.

But, I try not to eat those types of things anymore as they're bad for me.

I've eaten plenty of pre-packaged burgers (granted, they are made of chicken though) as a result of just needing something cooked quick, and they are probably the best I've ever tasted I guess it's more common in UK to see prepackaged foods (and by prepackaged I assume you mean already cooked / need reheated).

The trick to french fries is that you have to re-fry them. Put a little oil in a skillet and let them sizzle. Then dry them on a paper towel and they're edible. Microwaving = bad.

See, that's the problem.. I don't fry them in the first place. Does this work for baked fries too?

You can reheat baked fries in a microwave, deep fried ones shouldn't be reheated in the first place.

I actually enjoy the taste of refrigerated burger/fries. Don't ask, I just do.

I mean yeah, it tastes different than if it were warm and fresh from the grill, but I don't think it tastes bad.

Pizza is one of the few greasy foods that tastes good refrigerated. I hate reheated pizza, though, eugh.

Nope, I'm not eating it cold (who does? ).

The issue I have is that the burger picks up an extremely rancid/disgusting/undesirable taste after it's been refridgerated. Sometimes, the burger need only sit out for a while to develop it. No amount of reheating will remove the taste.

In addition to that, nobody else seems to ever notice it, except for me. I know that there are some genes that determine whether or not you're able to perceive the taste of certain chemicals, and I'm wondering if I have some kind of recessive gene that gives me the ability to taste something others don't.

Either way, I really want to know what causes this horrible taste, and what I can do to prevent it. I'll have to try lean hamburger meat next time, to see if that makes any difference.

I think pizzahut pizzas are horrible reheated, along with most other fast foods.

I thought that people noticing this difference in taste was quite common. Maybe people where you live just have no taste at all. :p
