Are awesome

I was today at Seattle's Columbia Center, the tallest building in Washington state and the building with the most floors west of the Mississippi (although only the 4th tallest by height). The observation deck was on the 73rd floor (which I think is the highest I've ever been relative to the base of the building), and the elevators were so fast they made my ears feel funny like on an airplane. The views were pretty good, I could see the city for a long distance and the mountains far away. Mount Rainier looked like it was floating Even the other tall buildings downtown were way shorter.

Have you been to any skyscrapers or other tall buildings? I went to the Seattle Space Needle when I visited last year, and I also climbed the Ulmer Münster, the tallest church in the world, in Germany. That has no elevator so you have to climb all the way up, which got tiring.

Sounds awesome. Don't just experience the thrill, earn it too!

But I believe I haven't been to any skyscrapers, let alone had a chance to go to one. I don't exactly get around, live anywhere near, go on trips...stuff. Would if I could but I'm sure unless something happens I never will.

Believe it or not, I've never been in any of NYC's tall buildings... the tallest ones I've been to are the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Tokyo, Japan in 2007... and the Erastus Corning Tower in Albany, the tallest building in New York State outside of New York City. =)

Skyscrapers are suitable for damsels in distress >: )
And put a superhero ready to save her: a good use of skyscrapers!
My real opinion about skyscrapers is... the progress! Just go on for few years or decades and our planet will be full of skyscrapers.
I live in a nation where skyscrapers are not prevaling, so i dunno how could you feel.

Never been in a really tall building before. Well, I mean never been in a skyscraper.

One day I hope to visit NYC.

You didn't go up the Stratosphere when you came to Vegas? You'll have to go next time you come.

Here in Las Vegas we have some fairly tall hotels. Most are only around 40-50 floors though. The Stratosphere is 112 stories tall (1,149 feet). It's the tallest freestanding observation platform in the US (even taller than the Space Needle). There are 3 rides up there, and a 4th one added this year that lets you literally jump off the side and free fall to the bottom (controlled though, only like 45mph down).

We visited New York last year to see my brother and his in-laws. They live on Long Island, but we toured Manhattan one of the days we were there. It is an incredible city. You don't realize just how many tall buildings are there until you visit. You could walk the whole city streets in the daytime and be in the shade 90% of the time.

We got to go up in the Empire State Building while we were there, too. A friend of my brother's works for UPS and his job is to deliver packages to there, thats it. So he has a visitor card that lets you pass the lines and go straight up, it was awesome. Saved us at least 45 minutes of waiting. We got up there just at sunset and the view is incredible. Sucked that the wind was blowing at about 30mph and it felt like -30 degrees, too. But we managed to stay warm long enough to enjoy the spectacle. I'll have to post a few pictures when I get home tonight.

Oh yea, I forgot about Vegas. I don't remember what floor I was on, but it was high up.

I didn't even know about the Stratosphere.

Maybe when I go next year (hopefully). And at least I won't be going for work like the last two times.

Tallest building I've been in was a skyscraper in Chicago. Not the Sears Tower, but the second-tallest building in the city. It had an observation deck at the top with a glass floor around the edge -- it was not fun looking down at the sidewalk hundreds of feet below. Those tall buildings have quick elevators, though; some of them hit like 25mph.

I was in Willis Sears Tower the other day.

Holy shit, that building is MASSIVE when you're standing right outside of it.

I walked by the Empire State Building once. Cool stuff.

I love looking up at the Skyscrapers because I get the eerie feeling that they're going to topple over on me, or that they're leaning over on me or something. However if I do that, I look like a total toolrist and don't bother.

(Yes, a toolrist. A portmanteau of a tool and a tourist. Go me, inventing new words.)

It's an enigma
----------------------------------------------------
I have a fear of heights.

That being said, standing out on the Empire State Building when I visited was one of the coolest things I've done for quite a while. Admittedly the urge to toss something over is always very, very high

The highest I've ever been in a building is probably the 7th floor, simply because I absolutely loathe heights.

I'm guessing the Big Shot isn't your favorite ride then? haha

I love heights. They've never bothered me enough to avoid them. Not to say I ain't scared shitless hanging from the side of a 100 foot climbing wall, but thats part of the fun. Up in the Stratosphere, they say not to lean on the glass... I do anyway just go get a better view of straight down.

All the lights are so pretty!

I don't remember any of the skyscrapers I've been to I've been on a couple, though.

Yeah, I was in Paris in 2008, and they weren't big on building height. Usually, just about everything was ~10 floors downtown. Is that typical of large European cities? Is it because the cities and many of the buildings are older, before it was technologically feasible to build habitable skyscrapers (e.g., no elevators yet)?

I think I went up in the Terminal Tower in Cleveland once. Other than that, I've been up in the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, though I think the rooftop pool of the hotel we stayed at a couple blocks away might have been just as high up.
