This is precisely the logic behind stun guns and tazers. They're powered by 9-volt batteries. What comes out of them are hundreds of thousands of volts, with extremely low amperage.

Most places with high voltage warning signs also have a huge amperage output

It just doesn't sound right when you go "DANGER HIGH AMPERAGE"

I think if you put that on somewhere it would make a stupid human more curious than the goddamn cat and kill the sorry bastard. It would sure make me look twice at whatever it was with that signage on it.

Plus they might not know what HIGH AMPERAGE is. Maybe they'll think it's an abundance of ampersands or something

I had a teacher who compared a number in watts to another in volts as if they were the same unit of measurement

I try to explain this to people all the time. It's amazing how uneducated people are about electricity when they're surrounded by it in their everyday lives. This is why people who go try and repair their TV's and other devices end up killing or hurting themselves pretty bad.

I know as much about electricity as I need too.

Plug goes in, plug goes out~ Plug goes in, plug goes out~
Switch goes on, switch goes off~

Also, some people might think that volts and amps are like feet and metres: ways to measure the same quantity under different systems. I didn't learn much about electricity until college, and there are so many different units used to measure different things (volts, amps, watts, coulombs, farads, ohms...) that I can understand laypeople not understanding what is what.

Yeah, but we're talking about the /basics/ here. Volts, Watts, Amps. I've also come across the need to know what Kilowatt hours are and how water heaters and a/c units could end up killing the shit out of your power bill.
