But yeah, other than that taking way too much time and effort to make... I think trying to seriously timeline the games altogether is rather silly. I think it would be like trying to timeline the Mario or Sonic games. It would just seem difficult, and every new game would conflict.

It is nice that the windwaker games have killed Ganon though. Even if the DSZeldas are not my favorite ones.

You can get similar results by loading up the boxart in Picasa and letting the Google Pictures screensaver dump them all over your screen.

Actually, the Sonic games have semi-coherent timelines...

...Just that they tend to group along the series where the most sequels were made.

So, original games are on series, loosely connected to the Adventure Series...

then it all goes to heck and you can give up on any continuity past there.

Timelines, well...I think it just all depends on what game series it is. I agree, if it's something with actual continuity, fine. But unless you're mapping out the release dates only on something like the Mario series, then it's really pointless.

Fascinating to see takes on timelines, but it gets kind of stupid after a while.

The split timeline separates the normal games from the CDi games. Which are the prequel of the cartoon.
The timeline fixes itself by making them a nightmare Wind Waker Link is having from Tetra, which in turn creates Dethl who gets lost in the sea.
Therefore in Link's Awakening, Link is saving everyone from a fate worse than death, and he knows it when he recognizes the random scribbles and pictures of fish in Face Shrine as a previous life memory of the dream with Gwonam.

I don't really like most interpretations of the Zelda timeline becouse they obsess over the TIMELINE SPLIT at the sightlest mention of Ocarina of Time, disregarding that you don't really have a reason to place certain groups of games in any place at all and it tends to get quite ridiculous.

Agreed.

The Zelda series always seemed odd to me for its tendency to go backwards in time, according to most of the timeline theories I've read. Like, Zelda II came after Zelda I, as expected, but IIRC, LTTP was intended to go before them, and OOT/MM before it, and nobody can agree where to put the games for the portable systems, and the CD-i games don't actually exist (Well, they were made, but few people like or have played them. Probably more have watched the AVGN videos about them than have actually played them.)

Oh, and every time a new Zelda game is released, people make new theories and sometimes reshuffle games around to fit in the new one.

That said, that image was funny, Darkdata

Heh, I wonder if making a Team Fortress 2 timeline is possible, now that we've got plenty of info about the past in there

At least Mario's timeline is more straightforward in most cases, but there's still stuff like Yoshi's Island long before Super Mario Bros. 1, and it can be debated whether SMB2US is canon or not (I don't consider the DDP-based SMB2 canon myself, but other people might disagree on this...)

I go by the theory that SMB2US was "All a dream"...

Just that Mario's dreams actually had a link with reality. Perhaps he had seen all those things before in a game that hasn't been made yet taking place before SMB2US but after SMB2JP.

Why put a game between it and SMB... [trope=FridgeBrilliance]when you have Yoshi's Island?[/trope]
It's very possible to dream about stuff seen that young.

I tend to just disregard the whole timeline thing, it makes certain games a lot more confusing than they actually need to be Zelda is a great example of it, but games like the FFVII prequels / sequels are adding way to many complications on a story that doesn't need it.

Oh yeah, forgot. Well, that makes it even more plausible.

Or maybe Mario just played Doki Doki Panic a little too late before bed and remembered all the levels, enemys and bosses but just didn't understand the story (as it is in japanese ).

The story for Doki Doki Panic is entirely told in pictures (with an English "HELP" if I remember correctly).

I'm pretty sure Nintendo disagrees on this, considering how many times the game and its characters have popped up since (enemy characters in later games, Super Mario Advance, the SMB2 stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee...).

I've said it before, but Miyamoto was more involved with DDP/SMB2US than he was with the real SMB2, if that means anything.

I'm afraid to find out how many attempted Kirby timelines there are out there.

I don't think kirby games have a timeline It's not like they follow a story line, atleast for the GBA / GB / DS / SNES games
