Macs are good, but I will forever swear by Windows. I have no idea why. Macs can do nearly anything that Windows can do, but I guess I just grew up with Windows. My dad bought and iMac about 5 years ago. Now he has to get rid of it because the video card is dying and the only way to fix it is to send it away, have them use specialist tools to crack open the case and REPLACE THE ENTIRE MOTHERBOARD. Everything is built in, so you can't upgrade or fix components, which sucks.

And yet, the galaxy is STILL fucked.
I used to have an old imac, but the damn thing needed a startup disc which nobody seemed to have. I chucked it after letting it sit in my closet for a year and a half.
If I wanted to pay a 100% premium on bleached plastic hardware I'd buy a Mac.
I like things that work without needing in-depth configuration yet give me freedom to do what I want, so I use Windows.
I honestly think the people who think Apple can do no wrong are the second thing keeping me from using Apple shit. The other being that I don't really like how... closed they are. I have an iPod Nano and I can't even put music on the damn thing without using some program -- it's a fucking MP3 player, not a goddamn model Fort Knox
Apple products are too overpriced for me, and it would take a while to adjust to "the Mac way" of doing things. I had trouble with old mid-1990s Macs with their single mouse buttons, Command and Option keys instead of Control and Alternate, and having to drag the mouse from the menu name to the menu item instead of making 2 discrete clicks. I think some of those things are different now (like the existence of the Control key, although shortcuts still use Command, right?), but there would be other issues. Also, Windows runs more software, and it's just what I'm used to and have very few problems with

Same here. Exactly the two main reasons I haven't bought their shit yet. I'm more apt to buy something like a phone or an MP3 player than a computer since the two former are specialized gadgets, whereas a computer you're supposed to be able to do a shit ton of stuff with. I'm also familiar with Windows and venturing off into the unknown is pretty scary. I don't like not knowing what the fuck I'm doing when I'm on a computer.

There's nothing really stopping you doing that on OSX, either.
Regardless, I'm personally quite comfortable with apple's computer offerings for my own use but I can't say their miscellaneous devices (phone/ipod/whatevers) ever really appealed to me.

I don't have a Mac. I've messed around with OS X a bit in VMware before, but that's about it.
I also really dislike people who idolise Apple - I just went with an iPhone because I like how it works, and the huge amount of apps available for it (even excluding the tons of crapware). I'm not a fan of their business decisions at all.
And yes, iTunes is terrible You can install apps from the phone itself, though.

Just gonna get this out of the way, I haven't used a Mac in a while, so I'll go with what I've used recently:
- iTunes. It's shitty, installs crap like Quicktime with it.
- Quicktime. Do I even need to bother?
- iPod drivers. Want to put music on your iPod touch? You must use iTunes. Don't want to use iTunes? You still have to download the 90mb installer to get the drivers. Not being able to use it as an USB Mass Storage Device (and drag-and-drop songs) is bullshit.
- iPod Touch's firmware. Won't go as far as to say it's shitty. It's decent, but lacks basic things that I feel MP3 players should do (i.e folder browsing for those crappy tagged songs; ability to manage playlists).
The thing about playlists is something that really annoys me. Only the On-the-go playlist can be modified on the iPod: bullshit.

The last is already possible, the first you can do with a jailbreaked iPod / iPhone.

I can't say I don't feel the same way about the Zune. Gotta use proprietary firmware no matter what, and the software itself cripples your computer if it's not a decent machine.

Still doesn't do much. I mean, it's something I'd like it to do right out of the box (besides, fixing something with homebrew ain't helping in the "Apple's software sucks" part)

I had to replace the SMS program in my blackberry because I could not text over 160 characters. I wouldn't spill over into the "next message" at all. This app is exponentially better than anything RIM has come up with. Piece of shit.
I liked Apple better in the 1980s and 1990s... the good old days of the Apple II series, pre-1998 Macintosh computers, and the rainbow Apple logo on the case. I think it all went downhill after they dumped the rainbow logo and started going iCrazy. I have several early-mid 1990s Macs (two Performa 575s, a Performa 637CD and a Mac SE/30... also a PowerMac G3 from 1997), and my girlfriend still uses an Intel iMac (that used to be mine, then I gave it to her when I got a Mac Pro, which I used for about 10 months or so.) So far, the SE/30 failed on me only once... and it turned out the little interrupt switch got stuck somehow (maybe when I was moving it), and my Performa 575 kept flunking out until I troubleshot the machine (now that there's only one hard drive instead of four, there's far less problems =D)
I started to become more attracted to Windows 7, and hence I started to turn down Apple products... I emptied my iPod nano and sold it (got a 1GB Coby MP3 player as an interim player between the nano and a Sansa Fuze, which I absolutely love =)... and if I get a smartphone, it's definitely going to be a Droid =D) After cleaning off the Mac Pro onto an external hard drive, I sold it for around $1500, and put the cash towards a new custom-built desktop with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. So, all I have to say is: don't waste your money on Apple and go with the cheaper (and often better) substitutes. =)

Wrong. I can edit all of my playlists and create new ones. Or did you mean ON the iPod, not hooked up to iTunes?
I don't think Macs are bad, but the compatability for everything is what I don't like. Lots of things that I use on the computer aren't available for Mac. Not to mention that sealing everything in an unopenable case with unupgradable hardware is the most ridiculous thing ever.

Seriously, Apple? No OGG or FLAC support? A lot of the other, cheaper PMPs (like the Sansa Clip and Fuze, some Archos players, and Cowon players) can play those formats... and I've even gotten Windows 98SE to recognize my Sansa Fuze as a flash drive, and even put music on through 98SE! (Still, any MSC-based PMP would be recognized as a flash drive under 98SE and ME, so you can put playable files on it even if you're on those OSes...)
Windows 98SE does recognize the iPod touch and the latest iPod nano, but only as a camera, otoh... so no, you can't put your music files on it. =P
They save me time, basically -- OS X lets me get basic things out of the way in fewer clicks or keystrokes, usually. Plus Apple's creative software like Logic and Final Cut ... is simply unparalleled. I can get done in Logic in 2 hours what would take me days to do in a DAW like ProTools or DigitalPerformer or FL Studio or whatever.
I have a gaming rig running Windows 7 as well. It games well, but doing certain basic tasks takes more clicks than it should, and I do get a lot of application crashes, and I also end up wasting time running disk checks (because NTFS is in no way a modern, reliable filesystem) and malware scans.
I don't really "swear by" either. Windows has its problems, mostly with stability and security. OS X has its issues in things like using OpenGL instead of a faster platform-specific API like it uses for the UI. Flash is also worse on OS X than on any other platform, so now browsers for OS X are being built so that they run plugins sandboxed because Adobe obviously isn't interested in solving their own problem. And ... Apple hardware is generally a little bit out of date (but the OS is designed to exploit every bit of the hardware it can, so it makes up for that flaw somewhat.)
iTunes and QuickTime on OS X are also nowhere near as bad as their Windows counterparts. I've used both and yes -- both are considerably worse on Windows for a wide variety of reasons. (But then again, MS Office for Mac is an unstable, bloated, inconsistently-designed piece of shit so why should Apple bother making anything good for Windows? I kid, I kid.)
