I'm pretty sure that's the intended texture. Even when they use checkers, there are different checker textures for different models.

I am using bmdview2, which can also view SMS models. (Or any model in .BMD/.BDL format, for that matter.)

I know nothing about this other than that it uses the same lightning bolt symbol as the fort, and is probably used on it. It has some files associated with it such as "screw.btk" and "groupinfo" so who knows what data is contained in those.

Oooh, very interesting. If you can link to those concept arts, that would be great, as it might be a nice addition to the wiki. I got the super special edition of the SMG Player's Guide, but I can't find the extra concept art thing...


Oh yeah, and I found another object of interest. Two models, SandGolem and SandGolemBlock. From what I can tell, the Golem model is only a skeleton, which has a great number of bones for its massive arms and two-part claws. The block is a simple flat box with a sandy brick texture. Interestingly, one of his three animations is "tpose".

Hmm, maybe we could get him visible in-game by giving it a basic texture and then swapping a normal enemy with it.


Also bigrelayplanet sounds like it's a test planet for racing.

There is a Big Relay Planet A that looks like a normal rock planet, so it's possible they had planned more to it and scrapped it. It is worth mentioning that SMG2 also has a BigRelayPlanet, but it might be different. Also, I'm fairly certain SandGolem would be made of the blocks sharing his name. Trying to give the model itself another texture won't do anything, as it literally has no polygons of its own, much like the Sand Bird and Coin Fish models in SMS.


Oh yeah, and I found BossCrab's planet. It's referred to as BossPlanetR50. It's a big generic rock sphere with clouds and small planets orbiting around it. It conforms perfectly to the angles of BossCrab's feet when using its animations. I hope this bit of info proves useful, as I'm sure it must be mentioned at least once somewhere.


Edit: One more thing: Topmaniac uses an interesting texture... one for a purple Topman.
Edit2: He also has a unique texture used for part of his head that features the ground pound symbol on red, but only the border is used.
Edit3: He also has inside him four very tiny Topman-type whack-stick-things of varying sizes.
Edit4: Beta version of Toy Time Galaxy's Undergrunt Gunner boss planet? It has a tower of metal panels instead of cake and gumballs, and has two wooden platforms on the side of the tower. It is called BossBazookaTower.

There is so much freaking material in this game, I wonder if any actually got used in Mario Galaxy 2. Also, has anyone tried swapping enemies, ect. to see if this stuff is still functional?

I finally went and put up all the contents of this topic up on the wiki. I apologize for any poor formatting, but at least I remembered to tag the ripped graphics properly!


I'd also like to mention I finally beat SMG2 100%, so I might start poking around some of its models. I'm curious to see if SMG2's BigRelayPlanetA is the same as SMG1's.


Edit: You may have seen Girrrtaco's pics of the unused enemy Onitsutsu, but you probably haven't seen it's texture.

By the way, what does "Atari" mean? Onitsutsu's groupinfo points to something called "OnimasuAtari", with Onimasu being the name for Tox Box. No models of that name exist, however.

I'll probably scan and upload the early art of the beta stages and characters sometime tomorrow if i can find my collectors edition game guide. shouldn't be very hard. I remember there were many versions of the bees and bee marios... and an oversize version of sea slide with coral reefs, and something like a haunted mansion, there were probably 4-6 pages of art in there.
