| Well you can argue that guns are needed to protect people from criminals with guns, but it's really not the case most of the time.
I have a friend from a really bad neighborhood in South Philadelphia(like Willie Smith) and he desperately wants to see stricter gun laws. Unfortunately, as it goes in the US, cities cannot have stricter gun laws than the state. And seeing that he lives in Pennsylvania, I doubt it will happen anytime soon.(Pennsylvania is often referred to as "pennsyltucky" for a reason) There's quite a few gangs around him. And aside from a lack of immediate urgency from the cops, bystanders often end up in crossfire. He's had to run from stray bullets, and had a few of his buddies killed from the senseless violence. These aren't people smuggling in arms from foreign countries. They're just getting them here. We need stricter gun laws. |

| Prince Kassad: that is not a 1:1 analogy so I can disregard it.
Well FieryIce, I'm not sure if stricter gun laws per se mean less crimes but I do know that in areas where gun laws are pretty much nonexistent, there is a greater possibility for chaos. However that doesn't say much. |

Originally posted by Kit I know that (especially as a girl) if I knew that having a gun while walking alone (especially at night) would absolutely deter all thieves and rapists and other "bad people," I know that I would to get my hands on a gun for the "just in case" scenario. However, since these conditions aren't guaranteed, I don't. I also don't think I could bring myself to pull the trigger, in case just showing it and threatening wasn't enough
What I'm trying to say is that "evil" people aren't the only ones wanting guns; people who want to protect themselves from evil people also would like to have them too. Unfortunately, both bad people and good people have access to them when laws permit it, and since bad people tend to use guns for bad things, we tend to hear it a lot more. Some guy keeping a shotgun in his closet in case robbers come isn't nearly as interesting to report on as a homicide. ____________________ |

| Honestly, as a denizen of a mostly disarmed country in terms of civilian population the thought of every person owning firearms scares the hell out of me.
Then again, it's not something that'll change in America until that entrenched gun culture does. |
