That would be to have both!

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea to show weight so you know more exactly what it is you get. But knowing what quantity it is would also be needed in many cases, even more so with the example of eggs. In fact, it's rather hard to cook five eggs six times even if they weight just as much. :/

This doesn't strike me as too dissimilar to Australian food packaging laws, in that food must contain the net weight of the food content. Prevents 'serving size erosion' where you buy a block of chocolate (500g) say and then to save money they reduce the block size to 490g or something.

But not allowing a quantity measurement of objects is if anything rather bizarre. A dozen eggs is still a dozen eggs :/

Yeah, I can't tell you how many times I've needed a pound of eggs and been annoyed at having to buy more than I need and weigh them.

Oh wait, yes I can: zero, because who the fuck considers the weight of an egg?

Maybe if we had dinosaur eggs on the market as well, this would make some sense.

We generally buy 40, 50 or 60g eggs here..
