Google setting up music store later this year, looking for search and Android synergy

gTunes?

Sounds interesting. If its DRM free and plays nice with my future Android phone (the EVO 4G), then I'm all for it.

It's an enigma
----------------------------------------------------
Hopefully this leads them to trying to centralize the android marketplace and their music service in a way that beats out iTunes. (Not to mention Froyo is supposedly getting some sort of app sync capabilities and a better music player).

Not really hard to beat iTunes at this point though :specialed:

It'll be DRM free because Google isn't stupid.

iTunes charges extra per song if you want it DRM free IIRC.

Same response as always: when it's DRM-free, has lossless tracks, and actually has Japanese and European music, I might be interested.

I wonder what format they'll use for their songs... I'm hoping they use Ogg Vorbis, since doesn't Android support Vorbis natively? (That and the fact that AFAIK, no major music store has Ogg, just MP3, WMA or AAC; however, some independent music producers offer Ogg or FLAC tracks for sale.)

I'm fine with them sticking with MP3. I don't think its going anywhere any time soon.

Please, please, don't make the software like iTunes.

I don't need to download a 100mb laggy POS with useless stuff to download my music.

But yeah, it's Google, what could go wrong < /fanboy>

There's only so much the browser is allowed to do locally.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Yeah, it'd be nice if they have a good selection of DRM-free lossless music. I know it's an odd combo, but a selection between AAC and FLAC would be good, seeing as AAC is generally top as far as lossy formats goes, and FLAC is lossless and they both have reasonable open source playback options. If not AAC then Vorbis at a reasonably high bitrate, with maybe a low and a high option where low is somewhere abouts -q 2 or 3 and high would be like 6 or 7.
