Permit at 15, license at day of 16. Driven stick with my own car ever since I was 17. None of the tests were difficult for me at all.

But yea, never owned an automatic. Not really preferenced to it, it's just what I get a hold of for cheap cars most times. Not to mention that it's better on gas most times anyways.

Daily, I'm usually driving about 30 miles at least. Had to go on-call for a side-job and drove about 40 this weekend...but that's about it usually. For what I do get out of driving I don't really put that many miles into my own vehicle. I've got an '89 Mitsubishi Montero V6 3.0L that I've been taking around since mid 2006 and I've only put about 19,000 miles on it since then (from 202,000 to about 221,000 miles on the engine). She's had a bit of work on her since I put 1300 down for the car itself. Radiator pull, brakes changed out, tranny was dropped for a rebuilt. Stuff like that.

Yeah, here in Las Vegas you rarely need to parallel park. Every casino has their own parking garage or valet (even the hospitals have valet), and every shopping center has park lots.

Never heard it called that, but there is a name for just about every traffic violation or get-around. Some lights here on non-main intersections take literally 3 minutes or more for it to change.

It's called a Michigan left because that's how divided highways in Michigan work. Apparently, there's some kind of state law that you can't turn left from or onto a divided highway in Michigan. So instead, if you're on a divided highway you have to drive past your street, then cross the median (there are periodic crossings for this, in pairs for each direction) and turn right. To turn onto one, you have to turn right, then use a median crossing to switch directions.

You may also have to do that stuff just to go straight through such a road, as usually minor streets with no traffic lights aren't built through the divided highway even if they exist on both sides of it.

Just another reason why Michigan sucks.

Yep. I don't regret leaving Michigan one bit. Between the ultra-high unemployment, poor mass transit, social conservatism in most parts of the state, and dead, abandoned cities...

Sounds like a complete dead-zone. Where people go to get shot

I'm twenty six. I started learning to drive about seven years ago, but never finished. Since then, I've learned to ride a motorbike.

I've decided to pick up lessons again and pass my test, because I want to hire a car to drive down to Le Mans, France to see one of the greatest motor races of all time :-)

I was too young to drive when I lived in Michigan, which is probably a good thing. If I had to drive in snow, I probably wouldn't love it as much as I do.

Fuck driving in snow. And walking in it, for that matter.

I love highway driving. I hate city driving. It's much more difficult; you need to pay attention to everything all the time, and people here suck at driving, so it's always a risk.

My father has tried to teach me, but he freaks out over the slightest thing (not even mistakes, but thinking I'm going to make some dumb mistake), gives ambiguous directions, and generally just stresses me out until I can't do shit anymore. I never did learn to park.

Snow isn't actually that hard once you're used to it and know how to handle problem situations. It's almost nicer in a way since there are often less people out.

Owning a car would be cool (mainly I'd just enjoy customizing the hell out of it), but I couldn't possibly afford it and really don't need it at all. Bicycles rock, and hell I can walk anywhere in town if I need to, or take the bus, or a taxi if I must.
