| Yea I had heard SDXC being in the works for a little while now. I guess they're finally putting it to market.
I'd be surprised if they get decent speeds off this at this time. I'd definitely wait for it. |

06-25-10 09:53:54 AM Post #3430 Another new proprietary standard with all the same nice licensing issues as the last two? And once we hit 2TB (we're in the dozens of gigabytes already) we'll need yet another new standard that our current devices won't support? Gee, that sounds fantastic.
Funny how USB sticks and hard drives don't seem to have that problem. ____________________ why not? |

| They're already adding on notations for 'class 1' speed on some of these new SD cards. Class 1 apparently allows for real-time video recording. |

Paulguy's Post configuration Yeah, what's with the capacity issues in SD cards anyway? It seems stuff like IDE and SATA don't have as much of an issue with addressing as SD does. Someone should just come up with a memory card format that has SATA + 5v or something (does ESATA have this?). Any issues with SATA versions seem to just be speed related and not capacity related.
Not sure if SATA has license restrictions, though. Oh well, SD is pretty much fully entrenched in to everything so nothing'll change. Hopefully future devices will have software or firmware controlled SD readers that could hopefully just be updated as long as there are no electrical changes to the protocol (Or if they're robust enough (See Retrode), even such changes might be possible unless the cards literally just don't fit in the old slots). ____________________ |

06-26-10 12:42:47 AM Post #3447 Originally posted by paulguyYeah, IDE and SATA don't have the problem that every three or four years, we reach the maximum capacity of the current standard and - rather than patching or expanding it or designing it to be extendable in the first place - have to come up with a new one which is incompatible with all those old devices. And you don't have to buy new IDE and SATA devices every three or four years as a result. Funny how that works. ____________________ why not? |
