He was taking swimming lessons for a while and thats where we learned of that external diaper. Definitely a good idea. Someone at the swim school thought we were the smart ones for putting a disposable underneath, he said he had a bad incident with cleaning the reusable one...

I think I have a photo of me in my diaper during a swimming lesson....drinking a Coke.

This school is actually really good. My son is only 18 months but knows not to jump in the pool (we have a gate anyway), can move his arms and legs but doesn't yet swim on his own without his arm floaties. They take an underwater photo for you, too. Its pretty neat.

That's great that he's on it that fast, actually. I don't think I really got into swimming with lessons like that until I was about 10 or so. Even then I only got so much out of it.

I can at least swim somewhat now. Sure can't do shit off a diving board save a can opener.

They have older kids there, some of which are funny to watch. One poor young boy seems terrified of putting his head under water. One of the lessons was to just put his face in the water... he would put his mouth in and nothing else for the whole lesson. The last day he would finally put his face it, but only for a second or two. I laugh but I understand, some kids are just afraid of the water. My wife is still terrified of the ocean or lakes. She won't go deeper than her ankles. But she swims just fine in pools, go figure.

Do they still just throw the kid into the pool? That's what they did to me.

Oh and that diving board.... It was blue.

Sort of, at this school they let them jump in on their own but they're right there to catch them. The older kids they "throw in". They just get them to jump in and then swim back to the edge. The teachers there are really good. Not much more my son can learn at this age, but we'll probably bring him back to continue once he gets closer to 2 years old. By then he may be able to swim on his own.

You know what, I don't think I was wearing a diaper when I was learning how to swim.

And blue slides!

Yeah, potty training is next up for the little dude. Thats an adventure. I will be thankful when the 2 boxes of diapers a month get removed from our shopping list though.

Being the only child in my family, I don't know much about toilet-training or cleaning diapers or anything like that. I do know about cleaning the cat's litter box

My parents would take me to swimming pools on vacations and in our old subdivision/condo complex (it was kind of both). Took a while for me to swim and not just wade and float on life preservers. What they'd do is, my mom would be in one place and my dad in another, and I'd swim from one to the other through water too deep for me to stand in. But they'd be there in case I faltered. I never learned the proper form or anything (all that mattered to my parents was that I succeeded in reaching the other parent), so I adopted a very slow and clumsy style.

That was my only experience before having my own kids. I think the cat litter is easier, only have to do it once a day. Would be nice if it it was the same with kids.

My parents only cleaned the litter box once a week.

They'd dump the whole box and put new litter in. Do most cat owners scoop the poop out every day?

I was made to. My parents didn't like smelling it, so we always got the scoopable stuff and I had to scoop it at least once a day. Sometimes they would make me do it twice.

Now our cats just go outside, we don't keep a litter box in the house anymore.

My parents wouldn't let the kitty go outside, usually. We all had to watch carefully when opening the doors for anything little and furry.

Once, I accidentally let her out the day we were leaving on a vacation. My parents were rather upset.

Mu dad has A LOT of cats so he has to change their boxes a lot.

With my two it needs to be changed more than once a day.

We didn't really have a choice whether or not to let them out. When we moved in with my in-laws, they had a doggie door and the cats finally found it. I did everything I could to keep them in... put a pan of water in front so they had to walk through it, they did anyway. Tried the anti-cat spray stuff, they didn't care. Tried scaring them whenever they came out... that was a failure. We finally gave up.

Before, while still single, we typically had 2 cats so the box really did need changing once a day.

Yeah, my parents didn't have their 2nd kitty for long before I moved out, so I don't know if they change the box more often now. I do know that they now have 2 litter boxes, 1 box for each cat.

I would panic if my roommate had a doggie door. I would leave them in one room if possible. My cats are not outside cats. But I think the younger one might be okay outside, but they both don't have their front claws.
