C:\Windows\Media\onestop.mid

I just discovered this and it's pretty damn awesome.

Welcome to 2001

It sounds pretty damn incredible on the OPL3 synth, too. I actually dragged it from someone else's machine to my 95 machine back in 2003.

...Even tried to use it in ZC.

I recently installed Windows 3.1 in DOSBox, and it sure is fun hearing that OPL3 sound used for MIDIs in Windows 3.1/95/98 again... =D

Anyone remember CLOUDS.MID and PASSPORT.MID? =)

I might have listened to it before, but forgot ... just did now (in miditowav, what else) and it's pretty good

I mostly remember the old canyon.mid (on Windows 95, with the FM synth), but some of the others too ...

First time I had ever heard it, not bad. Gotta love Microsoft Easter eggs. Is it still on Windows 7? I did it here at work on XP.

Yep, it's still on 7... along with town and flourish. (onestop's the really good one in XP and beyond - the other two are either okay (flourish) or you'll crack up laughing every single time you hear them (town).)

Of course, 7 also has remade versions of older sounds (not the same ones from 98 to XP), and even a few new sound schemes. Personally, I've used the Cityscape theme since installing 7. Even backported it to XP once when I wasn't sure I was ready to throw 7 on the netbook.

I usually turn off my system sounds, since they often get in the way of recording videos or music, or when I'm playing a game or some music, and I found them fairly needless. =P

I just imported these into Guitar Pro 6, gonna tweak the instruments and try to make it heavy metal!

Edit: that was a bad idea.

IIRC, in Windows 3.1, Chip's Challenge uses CANYON.MID for the ending music... it doesn't do it on later Windows versions unless you put CANYON.MID in the Windows directory (instead of the Media directory, which is default on 95/98/2000). =P

And PASSPORT.MID is in reference to a defunct software company, Passport Designs, Inc.
