My laptop is shut down whenever I'm not using it for more than 5 minutes. My PC I used to leave on for weeks at a time though.

My laptop is basically a PC as it is, so there isn't much reason to shut it down.

It it stayed at my desk, I would keep it on all the time. But I like to use it in the living room. Problem is my son plays in the living room so I have to move it out of his reach when I leave for the day. Plus is saved on electricity when you shut it down. We have a pool and an old A/C that sucks up energy like candy, so every little bit helps.

I turn my computer off at night, but leave it on all day usually. I used to turn it off after each use, but it got inconvenient waiting for startup and all that multiple times a day.

I usually leave mine on 24/7, since I usually have my server running, and I don't feel like waiting like 1 minute for the system to boot up, etc. =/

Mine is usually on because it functions as a server for various things, an alarm clock and music player, and I can log in remotely if I need anything. The boot sequence is also a bit of a pain in the butt. (Power on, unplug external hard disk because BIOS fails, enter password, wait, wait some more, enter another password, wait, wait, wait, restart the window manager that fails to start half the time, plug disk back in, enter its password, start up various programs and position their windows appropriately...)
Uses up slightly more power, but there's little sense trying to save power for me - my usage is already minimal, and I still pay through the nose in constantly fluctuating fees that don't relate to actual usage at all. It's not uncommon that my usage is higher than the previous month, but the total expense is actually lower, just because of those seemingly randomized fees that get up to literally 5 times the cost of the actual electricity.

I used to turn my computer off when I left (like for work) until just recently.

I leave this one on 24/7. No specific reason why. Just one of those habits that showed out of nowhere.

My computer is on all the time. I ALWAYS have something open that I don't want to close

Although, one time that I did turn my computer off, MSN wouldn't work for 2 months...

I put mine into hibernation so I don't have to wait 10 goddamn minutes for the OS to reload, though sometimes I'll restart to flush the PF usage back down.

Well, if the power didn't go out at random times, I can probably keep my computer on for just as long. I don't usually turn off my computer unless I'm going to be away from it for more than a few days at a time.

Paulguy's Post configuration
I keep mine on because i watch videos when I go to bed and run servers as well as the remote login whatever. I also don't like the bootup process since I need to do random stuff I haven't written scripts for yet.

The laptop gets shut down when I'm not using it though. Phone stays up though the uptime on it isn't so great because 2 days ago I forgot to plug it in and left it out of sleep and let the battery die.

I try to keep mine on, but it just keeps freezing so much that I wind up rebooting every 2-3 weeks even in the best case... :/
