Play SNES on your jailbroken iPad, with an iPhone as controller (video)

SNES used price: $40 - $60
SMW used price: $1 - $10
Max price: $70

To play it on your iPad with iPhone as controller:

iPad: $500
iPhone: $200
Minimum price: $700

It's still really cool, but why go through all that effort?

I can play a real SNES.

...I might dig that out and play Super Metroid again.

Not sure if I have said this before... but I will always prefer a real controller opposed to a digital one on a touch screen, same goes for key board. :/

I rather just plug my SNES in.

I spent a good $1000 on this computer, and I happen to play Super Mario World on it. Does that mean I wasted at least $930 by purchasing this computer?

Of course not. I didn't buy my computer just to play Super Mario World; I'm playing Super Mario World on it because I already have it, so why is this any different?

Paulguy's Post configuration
Yeah, I'd hate to use an iphone for a controller. Have they gotten the classic controller to work with it over bluetooth? That'd be fantastic and much more worth seeing than this. Not sure if the ipad can act as a usb host, so you could just plug in any kind of controller, along with a SNES controller adapter, though.

If you had only purchased it to play Super Mario World, then yes. But I didn't mean to say if you already had one it was useless. If your intent is to play Super Mario World and go this route, then that is useless and expensive.

It has been done through bluetooth, but not for this application yet.

The only thing this does for me is make the iPad/iPhone more interesting and attractive.

Not enough for a purchase though, I'd much rather go for something running android. And the iPad for me is just a oversized gimmick so far.

All the more good stuff for those who bought both though.

Idea: get a second iPad to display a picture of the SNES console the whole time.

My point is that this is an entirely unrealistic situation, and that if you think this is "useless and expensive," then, for example, bsnes must be "useless and expensive" as well, which I disagree with.

I'm not sure where this thread started to suck, but I think it must've been a while ago. Come on, guys. You're disappointing me.

#54

Bigger screen, real gamepad (and if I had an adapter, the actual SNES controller), more accurate emulation (bsnes), only slightly less portable if I had a laptop ... it's the next best thing after a real SNES + PowerPak

Although I'll admit, that's an interesting use for the iPhone and iPad if you're bored enough and have a computer's worth of money to spare (or enough other uses for them)

That looks awesome. I wouldn't buy an iPad and iPhone/Touch just for it, but I'd have it set up like that if I happened to have an iPhone and iPad. I plan of having both at one point.

Doesn't the iPad itself fulfill the total useless and expensive, but still awesome requirement?

Yes and no. It's not useless for people that actually need something more portable than a laptop/netbook. Typing on it isn't so bad. It's good for bloggers or news media. Other than the mobile crowd... it is useless.
