Paulguy's Post configuration It would be nice to see devices have some kind of RF based signaling for remote control. IR is inconvenient, especially with some setups where you have stuff in a cabinet or another room.
Bluetooth could be good as long as devices could keep a proper sync to each other without constant need for communication or power draw. It's nice being able to control stuff on the wii with the wiimote and not having to bend over to try to point it straight at it, but the wiimote either has to always stay on and draw power or there's several seconds of sync time before you can use it (and even then it can be unreliable whether it decides to sync at all...). Dish networks's boxes use an RF remote which is nice, but this is all just a hopeless pipe dream. IR is cheap, so we're stuck with it from here on out. The best we'll see is requiring some kind of master control box and taping IR blasters to everything, and still end up with the odd remote that it won't work with or can't "teach" for some obscure reason. ____________________ |
