But if he's falling, that means he's past the cliff by now.

It may not be obvious, as you would think the cliff was the end of the road, but the cliff must take to somewhere.

Unless it's one of those bottomless pits. In that case the screen may be set up so when falling you get to warp to somewhere else.

I don't know where am I getting with this considering I don't even know what's going on or what nothing is about but whatever.
