Scientists begin 520-day Mars mission simulation

Give me WoW and chips with soda... I could be confined to the same room for 520 days. This is serious stuff though, minimum outside association, breaks in communications, simulated emergencies. Just sucks for them they are pretending to do it instead of actually going to Mars. The first people to go will definitely go down in the history books. These people will most likely be forgotten.

Ahhhhh not so sure about being forgotten...although, right now, the space program over here is at a loss with NASA space shuttles retiring and 36,000 scientists soon to be without a job. And considering the current mindset would be to rather scrap things like this for budget with the current government...

All I can say is hope that the private enterprises go far beyond 'space taxis' and get us looking into something that will actually get us potentially somewhere. Japan, at least, is on the right track there.

Not that they'd be completely forgotten, but the ones who actually go to Mars will receive much more attention. They'll also be prominent in future books about history and when we first sent a manned mission to Mars. But I agree, the US space agency is becoming a joke with so many cutbacks. The US has progressed a lot from all the developments and advancements made by NASA. Its a shame.

The space program is being scaled back from manned missions, iirc, not shit like probes/development/etc.
