Google employees get a choice of using a Mac or a Linux box now. This is pretty interesting, because it's unprecedented. They want to eventually run the Chrome OS, though. Apparently the decision is based around the Chinese attacks back in January.

Hmm, Windows XP running IE6 as administrator. Thats like asking for security problems. Upgrade IE and for the love of God, upgrade to Windows 7!

Theres no need to switch to a Mac. Linux I could understand, as it saves loads of cash. But just switching to IE8 or Windows 7 will solve their problems.

Macs certainly aren't as invincible as people think they are. I've heard of virus attacks on them before, and they weren't pretty. One happened at a program I was attending as a student back in 2002. Just because they happen less frequently doesn't mean they're safe. I'm just honestly waiting for some kind of Mac bomb to hit one of these days, honestly.

It would suck if that happened right after their switch.

I'm really curious to what these are...like self-replicating actual viruses? For OSX?

The only Mac virus I have EVER seen is one that got into my iBook way back in 2001 in the pre-OSX/Darwin days.

My dad has an iMac. It's never had a virus before, but I'll admit, they aren't as long-lasting. My computer is older (*cough*relic*cough*) than the iMac but is still incredibly usable. Yesterday, the iMac required a full restart and has been glitchy for quite a while.

Then again, it's an iMac. You can't upgrade them without dismantling the damn thing.

Pretty much how all the big wigs respond when their product gets caught in the crossfire by competition.

I mean if Apple vs Adobe hasn't been a TREAT as of late...

This all leads to +'s for us. They will both fix more security flaws and resolve other issues due to name calling and pointing fingers.

Meh, Secunia doesn't agree that Windows 7 is more secure than Mac OSX. It's really about the same. Although Apple has been historically slow at releasing patches, Microsoft only releases them once a month so

On the other hand, Linux had far more vulnerabilities than both of them, but they were nearly all "Less" or "Not" a threat (highest being the odd "Moderate"), compared to the majority of the vulnerabilities of Mac OSX and Windows being "Highly" or "Extremely"

As far as browsers go, Safari < IE8 < Chrome < Firefox (oddly enough) < Opera (unsurprising) (ranking done first by unpatched vulnerabilities, then by number and severity using my "dead reckoning" technique, meaning I just glanced at them and sorted mentally, if it's wrong, w/e.)

So... Microsoft is just whining because they got told. Oh well.

The thing is, programmers will be able to adapt to linux and I guess the business people will now start using OSX. It seems apple stock is going up even more

The hilarious thing is how people like me just keep using XP (or variations thereof), meaning Windows sort of has three major competitors now, and a potential fourth (Google OS).
