It's a nice way to garner a little attention to a subject without going stupidly overboard. Quite nice really, and I don't think it'd piss off any more people than the subject matter would already piss off anyway. Green light a version here in the States.
By Wednesday afternoon, a week after being posted to YouTube, the ad has received more than 600,000 views.
"We wanted to show society the way it is today, without judging: there's obviously no problem with homosexuality in France today," Nathalie Legarlantezec, a spokeswoman for McDonald's, told French media.
It's the first time the fast food giant has targeted the LGBT community with advertising.
Gay rights advocates have praised the ad's inclusive message of tolerance.
Am I the only one that thinks the guy's very cute? xD

I may be the only one here who finds this advertisement a little creepy. Mainly because of the way the ad is pointing.
I know that I will get shit for posting this. But I am entitled to my own opinion.
Now, don't get me the wrong way here. I support Gay rights to a certain extent. But to me this is not the right way of doing it. I can think of ways this ad could have pointed. But homosexuality is not one of them.
Ok, sure, I am with Gay rights. But this is a little too far for me. I don't like having it shown in public like this.
I am sure all the Gays will hate me now. But hey, imagine if this ad was focused on religion? Politics? Etc?
This ad could have gone the right way from a neutral demographic.

Except religion is a choice, being gay is not. Therefore, I assume you'd be against McDonalds (or some other establishment) releasing a similar ad saying blacks are welcome after segregation ended? If not, then you're clearly biased and homophobic.
Being in favor of gay rights doesn't mean you aren't homophobic.

Generally, most psychologists tend to classify it as not a decision you make.
This also makes sense if you happen to read up on just about anything involving it, especially in young adults/younger kids. Especially in cases of hard-righties where being teh gay is "satan's work" and they're typically subjected to ... rather abusive practices.

Our sexual preference is hard-coded into our DNA and our brains. Despite what some "scientists" may have you believe, it is not a choice, nor can it be "cured" by "therapy".
Many people can be bi-curious, and whether or not to act on that can be a choice, but not if you flat-out are attracted to members of the same sex.

Nope, it's not a choice.
Sure, you can choose who you want to be with, and who you have sex with - but as Peardian said, you can't choose who you are attracted to.
If it was really a choice, I'm sure most gays would rather be straight. Think about it like this - why would you choose to be in a minority which is oppressed and treated like shit in many places?
edit: Bitmap -- if it's a choice, does that mean you could willingly be attracted to males and have a relationship with a male if you chose to? Is your attraction to females also a "choice"? Is it a switch that you can flip at will?

I can tell you in more ways than one how it can be a choice. For starters: You could experiment. Just how some people experiment with the same sex. How do you think Bisexuals came into play? From choice? Oh, no! That is all genetics!
Yep, sexual orientation is hardwired into the brain A gay person can decide that they want to pretend to be straight, possibly to comply with strict moral and religious rules, but they're still gay. They're likely to end up very unhappy with their forced situation and still seek relations with the same sex in some way or other.
