Horizon's H-Cell 2.0 hydrogen fuel cell for R/C cars now shipping (video)

The company's H-Cell 2.0 fuel cell kit, unveiled back in February, is now shipping to forward-looking enthusiasts and comes with everything you need to mount it on a tiny boat, little plane, or R/C car (like the Tamiya TRF416 shown above). While Horizon indicates the cell will keep that car moving at 45mph for a full hour, an impressive figure, they still haven't told us another very important number: the cost.

A whole friggin hour! Thats amazing. Even the best Lipo (lithium polymer) batteries only get 20-30 minutes on a full charge and thats only if you don't push it full power the whole time. Wow, it looks a little bulky but it seemed to keep its speed up when they showed it outside.

I have a 1:16 car right now but it's electric. I used to have a 1:8 nitro truck by HPI, the Savage 4.6. That thing was awesome, but even though it was pretty sturdy I always found a way to break it. Replacing parts every week got to be too expensive

I'm amazed at the weight. I'm not an enthusiast, so I wouldn't know heavy from light, but the entire thing weighs in at 890 grams, or a little over 2 pounds.

But wow. This can be an interesting thing, putting hydrogen fuel cells into smaller things to make them operate. It could help make hydrogen fueled cars more affordable by making them more widely available and thus become cheaper as time goes on.

Umm... isn't hydrogen high explosive? It could pose a problem if small children break their toys like they always do.

Hopefully the children packing Fuel Cells are over 15.

Paulguy's Post configuration
and if you crashed it, it'd result in a cool explosion, which we all know is the best part.

Its not that much dangerous than lithium polymer. Both are dangerous materials but they use them since they are the best.
