Copying from SomethingAwful. This looks really awesome!

V1.2 of this just came out, and it's a pretty huge leap forward from earlier builds, as it now supports everything that was in SMB3/World, including sloped/slidy surfaces, autoscrolling and swimmable water. On top of that, there's a bunch of new powerups and enemies, either made from scratch or imported from other games.

Essentially, this is pure Mario, just as you remember it (ala SMB3/SMW). Just running at a higher resolution, with a built-in realtime editor (play the level as you're constructing it), and full simultaneous co-op play which splits the screen intelligently if the players move too far apart. It comes with a 50-level campaign out of the box, plus many, many more to find on the official levels forum.

There's really not much else to say other than that it's great and you should all get it if you like Mario at all. Oh, and give the editor a spin, too. It's super-easy and intuitive, and it's pretty fun to tool around with godlike powers while you're jumping around.

So basically it's a Mario fangame that pays homage to all previous 2D Marios, adds co-op support, realtime level editing, custom powerups, and more. And the physics are supposed to be similar to SMW's physics. I've definitely got to check this out.

Oh yeah, I played an earlier version a few months ago (I think it was 1.12), and that was already awesome. Downloading this right now, looks very promising.

Does it actually have right physics? Every Mario fangame I've played has had the physics just a little off and it bothered me.

They're not perfect, no. They feel somewhere in between SMB and SMB3 which is...eh?

Just took a try at it, but right from midway through the first level I quit. Want to know why?

...You may consider this a dumb reason, but the music didn't loop like I think it's supposed to. It's like they just put in an .mp3 of the level music (complete with fadeout) and called it done. That is annoying.
Also the controls may or may not allow using the numbers on the Num Lock side of things. Not too sure on that, I just don't see it say anything whenever I put the P2 controls to it. For a V1.2, this looks like some issues that should have been ironed out already.

I'll probably try again later. But with the game muted. I just think I shouldn't put the game down (delete it) just for that one error. Besides, I would at least like to see what it is with this anytime level editing that the game seems so fond of...and possibly perhaps the online level editing...maybe if it's what I think it is.

One issue I'm having is that the window doesn't size correctly for some reason and I get black bars on occasion. Running full screen would solve this but it would make my computer run too hot. Other than that, the little I played last night before bed was pretty fun.

I downloaded this and I'm currently decompressing the .zip file. I notice that it has a level editor, so maybe I'll make something with it

The SMB2 style enemy pick up is uselessly unreliable/broken. And it's forced on you for the first castle, making it unfairly hard.

It's a little wonky, yes, but I've had luck just holding down the grab button and down at the same time when I land on a grabbable enemy.

This is pretty freaking awesome overall, but yeah, the music needs to be made loopable, and occasionally jumping on top of a moving shell hurts you instead of stopping the shell, but this is surprisingly robust. It's a pretty good combination of the All-Stars games into one.

Actually, I don't think I used that ability at all in Castle 1.....but the grabbing is REALLY unreliable.

I also found that when walking down a slope jumping is really...dodgy. Like, half the time you don't jump. Ugh. Killed me at the last jump of a level.

The physics are certainly better than other Mario clones, only sightly off... Namely running is a little like what you'd except from a clone and jumping is a little floaty...

But the colitions are horrible. They use the entire sprite for the colition instead of a box that shifts to a position, making things like hitting the wrong block becouse of a pixel, or dying becouse an slow moving ledge touched Mario's hair.

The controls are far from tight as well. Again, they are overall floaty, and grabbing/throwing things is very broken specially with SMB2 stuff. You can't hit anything with a vegetable unless you throw it upwards.

And the set of enemies and levels and such... They are very disappointing as well, featuring only the blandest elements. There are the different colored Yoshies, of special mention the light blue one that turns things into ice, or the red and blue kuribo shoes that allow walking in lava and flying... but besides those it's all five clones of goombas and koopas and boring.

I'd rather have the powerups hacked into SMW and it'd have much more potential.

Anyone know how to solve the problem of actually getting both the game and the level editor to work? They always seem to freeze on the first screens, and I have to go into Task Manager to kill them.

I waited for it to respond again, and then it worked fine.

I also couldn't get it to work in wine at all. Seemed to have an issue with directshow. Not surprising, though; wine's directshow is a piss poor abomination of an implementation. I bet if they fixed that, it'd fix a LOT of games that don't work.
