Anyone planning on seeing this movie?

Thoughts?

Think it could be a good video game turned movie adaptation?

Not sure when I'll see it, but it'll either be today or tomorrow.

It looks good and besides the "Jake Gyllenhal isn't Persian" debacle, it's getting ok reviews for a video game adaptation. They certainly have come a long way in the past decade or two. Fans seem to like it more than critics, I never listen to the critics anyway. I think they've lost the ability to enjoy a movie and can only see it like you would the Matrix code or something. All numbers and symbols adding up to their score of the movie.

Just saw the movie, it was actually really good. Sure acting and casting could have been better or more accurate. But its a Disney flick, you can't really expect any better. Gyllenhal pulled off the stunts pretty well and wasn't terrible. The story is good enough to keep you interested and fun enough to make you want to finish it. Definitely worth seeing if you were on the ropes about this one.

I wrote a little something on this movie over at Game Fanatics, a gaming site that I write for now. /end plug

Before watching Prince of Persia the movie, I thought it could be that movie to pave the way for great video game turned movies. Sadly, I was wrong. This is the same opinion I've seen on other websites before and after seeing the movie. I can understand feeling this way before the movie from all the trailers but afterwards?

Almost half way through this movie I started to get bored with it. It felt repetitive and predictable, more so than other movies. It was nice to see some of the puzzle elements from the game woven subtlety into the movie and the fighting scenes were nice to watch but I don’t feel like this is that video game turned movie that is just so amazing that it will pave the way for other great movies based off of video games. This leaves me waiting for that movie to come along that will show non-gamers that video games are capable of telling a great story on the large screen. Perhaps I will have to wait for Mass Effect to finally get what I’m looking for in a video game turned movie.

Now don’t get me wrong, Prince of Persia is a good movie and deserves a watch at least once. It is rated PG-13 but that doesn’t stop parents from allowing younger kids into the movie.Visually the locations are beautiful and the action scenes are great but with a fast moving camera, it is very easy to miss something.

Overseas the film is doing much better than stateside, almost making close to 89 million. In the US, however, it was beaten by Sex in the City and only took in around 30 million.

Just a bit of back story on Prince of Persia the video games, the first installment was released back in 1989 and has been released on at least eighteen different systems. Prince of Persia has been through several reboots and retelling of the story but one thing remains: it is set in Persia with the main character called the Prince who has amazing acrobatic skills.

Three words for you:

World of Warcraft

This movie should be epic, if it's anything like the cinematic trailers from the game and expansions... Sam Raimi is an interesting choice. He did well with the Spiderman movies.

Anyway, back on topic with PoP. I was feeling a bit bored with it, like you said, about halfway through. But the action picked back up a little and kept me going. It is worth seeing once, the action is amazing and the scenery is incredible. The acting isn't bad but its not oscar worthy. Its still a fun movie.
