Because it sounds like we'll be out of IPv4 addresses within the next 18 months or so.

Yeah, I think IPv6 would solve that problem. Those are some pretty damn big numbers.

Yea...I don't really know why you would need ten tet-trillion IPs like that.

At least this time they're thinking ahead, as I don't think we'll ever run out of IPs under the IPv6 standard.

I've been thinking the Internet should switch to IPv6 for quite a while now. I wonder why it has taken so long.

Does Jul handle IPv6 correctly?

I would think it'd be implemented first on the server side of things before we see it on the consumer side (routers, etc). But it doesn't seem like its been adopted by barely anyone yet.

Paulguy's Post configuration
I know the ISPs will be the absolute last. Telecom companies will spend the least amount possible as long as things work acceptably from their point of view. What's worse is they're the ones that can really easily afford it, compared to a lot of other companies that have to upgrade.

Oh, how lovely it would be if NAT disappeared with the spread of IPv6.

Knowing American ISPs, though, they'll still probably try and charge for more than one IP per house just because they can.

We would have more than sufficient IP adresses if IANA weren't so stupid at the beginning of the Internet.

HP has three /8 ranges all for itself. That's 50 million IP adresses. And there's no way they will return those.

But there still needs to be reserved ranges for companies. The good news is that with IPv6 and hopefully new governing standards for when IPv6 goes mainstream, companies won't try to buy 42,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 addresses.

Also, isn't IPv6 widely used in Japan? Man, the US is so behind the times.

Yea... Apple has all of 17.*.*.* reserved for them, but how many of those addresses do they actually use? Same with many other companies, like Microsoft, HP and Oracle (which bought Sun recently), who have whole IP ranges to themselves, but probably only use less than like 5% of the range. =/
