I can't find any answers on Google so I thought I would ask here.
Why do games come out earlier in some countrys and later in others.
I was wondering because Super Mario Galaxy 2 came out today in the USA
and I am in the uk, Europe's release date is about 18 days later, why does Europe have to wait?

For Europe, it's because of the whole NTSC/PAL conversion and the multiple languages. Popularity also probably plays a factor in it, seeing as how Metroid is released here before in Japan and Mario Strikers was released in Europe before everywhere else.

FYI 18 days is nothing in terms of game development. :/
And there is no reason they could not have both released on the same date. (As they did with the original, IIRC.)
Though, what Peardian mention is still somewhat true if it's months in between the releases and such. (Even though the version you get still have the same english as the american version. V_v
Why they push back dates like they do in this case is beyond me. :/

Because the video game industry is made up of sadists who over-hype everything that they do, make you wait an eternity for it and feed off of your disappointed tears.

You also have to remember that an RPG, like Pokémon or Final Fantasy, usually takes a few months to be released in the USA after localization, then another few months for Europe, since they have to translate it into various languages... (most commonly Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, and Italian... other languages seem to be rare or nonexistent. =/)
Platformer games, shooter games, etc. usually take a shorter time because of having less text to translate; however, you still have PAL/NTSC conversion issues, etc. =P ____________________ YouTube • DeviantArt

Theoretically, first-party games should have a shorter turn-around time; Nintendo has a lot of trilingual North American releases (English/French/Spanish) so part of the work's already done.

It's just slackness due to treating anything not America/Japan as third tier countries.
(I'm not bitter at Nintendo of Australia at all). |
