Should be about half the cost that they are at times, according to his words.

I couldn't agree more. I'm not sure what spurred the whole 50 > 60 dollar hike from this last generation to now. I seldom want to jump on a game that's over 50 dollars where, before, in the last gen, I was met with that problem far less frequently (and tended to see a lot of REALLY GOOD 20-30 dollar titles).

That said, I buy way less than I did before or I aim more for the cheaper games if I can find them. My amount of digital games is astonishing in comparison to my disc games on my PS3, for instance.

I'm cheap; what can I say?

More people would buy more games if the prices were lowered, but that "more" might not be enough. It's a field not yet tested...Nintendo could start another revolution next generation with a powerful system and cheap games, we'll see.

Yeah, there is no reason that new PS3 games or 360 games are still $60. Maybe back when they first came out and Blu-ray/high capacity discs were still a premium. But now they are as common as DVDs and almost as easy to mass produce. The price for Blu-Ray movies has stabilized around $20-$25 so theres no reason that games can be $50 again for new PS3/360 games.

I think dropping the price by half is a little optimistic. $40-$45 would be ideal for PS3/360 games and $10-$15 for PSP/DSi games

Yes. Very yes.

I'm not the kind of person who can just go out and buy new game for $60! I'm lucky if I can buy a used game for $20! That's seriously the money situation I'm in now.

Actually, Valve has tested that with their sales, and they find that at around 70% off, they had the highest net income for one of their games.

Yep, prices could definitely be lowered. And they wonder why people turn to piracy (among other reasons).

My parents didn't get a Wii because games for it were too expensive. Surely they weren't the only ones.

Considering the massive development costs associated with modern games, and the fact that one must sell [x] million copies to be considered a success, it's no wonder they're so expensive now. :\

Dunno how to fix that, short of an industry-wide return to simpler games with much smaller development teams...

It worked in the 90s and the games were still great. Maybe there would be fewer cookie-cutter FPSes to boot!

Well on the flip side it does seem like titles drop in price rather quickly.

Arkham Asylum for the PS3 is already 39.99 on Amazon
Valkyria Chronicles is 19.99

Arguably a perfect price for it. It's worth 30, honestly, and started at 60.

Paulguy's Post configuration
Yeah, I have to say that the higher resolution models and textures and music and all that probably amounts to more development man-power. Not to say that the higher ups in the companies aren't making a ridiculous amount of personal profit, though.
