I used to post at a board with those I'd say they're even worse than those pop-up ads of old, as the fade-in ads actually slow you down loading the page.

I still remember going to a few boards that would literally spawn a new pop-up ad for every page

Ads really need to die. Or get the fuck out of the way.

When my computer still worked, I had Opera alert me about every cookie it recieved, I wrote down the addresses, and then I blocked all of them that weren't the site I was visiting.

It got rid of a lot of ads.

Now, I leave Javascript disabled and Flash blocked. (Not like Flash would work anyways...)

Yeah, I block 90% of the cookies and then the ads too, and javascript, making these fade in ads fail to hit me.

Thank goodness for Google Chrome's AdBlock extension... it really helps to get rid of those stupid fade-in advertisements. Anyone remember when they were just animated GIFs, typically 468x60, 88x31, or 728x90? =/

Adblock + Noscript = a sane internet, especially since flash- and javascript-heavy sites load rather slowly on slower computers.

I don't mind text ads or small static images since I know many sites depend on advertising to stay online, but moving (or worse, sound-playing) ads are a uncalled for distraction.

That sort of thing was why I installed an ad blocker in the first place.

The web is hardly even usable without one these days.
