Yeah, I kinda prefer stuff being out of control of the Flash player. The Flash player is very restrictive in what it allows the user to do, whether that's just trying to seek around in a nonretarded manner, overriding some annoying behavior in a program, blocking traffic from a specific host or trying to rip video from it. With HTML5 content, it'll be up to the browser what to do with it and you know at least something like Firefox will have all kinds of extensions eventually to control and access every aspect of it.
Also, the new hardware accelerated browsers will certainly help, if they can accelerate SVG well.
The HTML5 player on YouTube unfortunately doesn't support all videos yet... I sometimes get the flash player when viewing music videos or some featured videos. =/
At least when the player is done, I find it'll be much faster than the Flash player, both in load times and responsiveness. =D

This. I don't quite get why there is so much hate. I agree with Orlandu, it isn't the fault of Flash or Macromedia/Adobe that people don't know how to code/use it properly. Wahh, banner ads crashing your browser? Well, maybe its because the people who make those banner ads are retarded and don't actually know what they're doing--I mean, would that honestly surprise you? Also note that it looks like Safari users are the only ones complaining about Flash crashing the entire browser. I won't pretend its perfect, but I have never had any major issues with Flash in FireFox and IE...well, I'd say it has far more severe problems to worry about than anything related to Flash.

Try using it on a Mac and you'll quickly learn where all the hate is coming from: any Mac at all that is running Tiger or later, regardless of how many threads it has, regardless of its GPU and RAM. It becomes evident pretty quickly when a simple YouTube embed bogs down a eight-core Mac Pro or an i7-based iMac without any obvious reason. Then suddenly everything freezes for a second, and the browser crashes!
Believe me, it's Adobe's fault.

All the more reason to use a PC instead. If a Mac OS can't run Flash without crashing but Windows can, then its more on Mac than Adobe.

Not quite. One in 3 times, it's flash causing my computer to hardlock on WINDOWS.
Thus eliminating both options as crash-free. Flash is crashy, always has been. The issue is people want to take control away from a proprietary plugin and give it back to users. But at the same time, it isn't getting rid of Flash, so there's nothing to worry about, if you like it.

This isn't a Mac vs. PC debate.
While Flash is a lot more stable for me on Windows, ... it's still crashed on occasion. Flash should be delegated to things like animations and games. HTML5 can take over easily for video players and irritating banner ads. It should not be as huge a part of the internet as it is. There should be no sites that are constructed entirely out of Flash. It's just ridiculous.

※ is limited to Adobe's player only
※ does not clamp when color filters are applied
※ limits access to render quality controls (did you know "best" quality is an option?)
※ has functionally pathetic but legally powerful DRM
※ eats CPU power
※ crashes on 32-bit Windows, Mac OS, x86 Linux
※ isn't available for 64-bit Windows or PPC Linux
※ has 16-bit overflows during rendering
