To sum it all up (from previous posts), the ratings just caused some people to whine like little kids and stirring up some drama. And n00b was useless as a way to stop bad behavior.

I never really did find a reason for X/10 or star ratings for forum posts anyway...

Ratings went from 0 - 10 and were multiplied by your level (and the value went up over time as your level went up automatically).

It used to be a lot more prominent (shown in threads) but got taken out after a while, probably because of how inefficient it was... Then the memberlist sorting view for ratings broke (it was also wildly inefficient) and it was largely forgotten about.

As it was people who did know they were there had a strange and annoying tendancy to take their value wildly out of proportion.

I had ideas for another system for specific posts (basically the same style Facepunch uses) but that got veto'd.

My favorite ratings system that I've seen was this section on your profile where users would publicly give you like "props" or something, with a short explanation. It didn't have any negative component so it didn't really upset anyone.

It doesn't sound like it'll be missed, but if you ever wanted to bring back some form of ratings, that's one approach that I think works well.

Only thing I might suggest in lieu of that suggestion is something like a Thank system. You know 'x user was thanked x amount for this post' and it keeps a running total?

That seemed fine to me if we HAVE to have a rating system.

Not anymore. It has tried to make its appearances on his board, but over time, things have shifted, so that drama is now the exception.

Hence, why the rating system was destroyed instead of being left behind like so many other past events had it.
