Because these ones know your gender, age and suggest a product to suit what you might like based on that.
'Same as usual?' coming from one of these might just creep me the heck out. |

 | So all of that time, money, and effort meant to technologically enhance our species is being put into crap like this? We need this why? I hate "intelligent" marketing as it is, and this just seems like yet another place where we will be bombarded by "customized" ads.
Not to mention it probably won't be accurate. I mean if the only thing it is going to rely on for determining your preferred choice is your age and gender, then its just going to stereotype everybody. Let's say women age 23 = Hershey Bar, I gaurantee you not everyone in that criteria is going to want a Hershey Bar. Now these things, if they're ever implemented, will probably allow some degree of personal customization similar to how Amazon.com allows you to customize product recommendations that more suit individual customers. But does that mean that every vending machine nationwide is going to update with my personal preferences as I input them? More likely it will only update certain "brands" of vending machines that chose to implement the technology, so that this technology will be marketable as a selling point that in theory will increase customer loyalty to a specific brand. That means that some will remember my preferences, while with others I'll have to start from scratch. Plus why would I bother to go through all of that trouble anyway when all I want is a quick snack?
Anyway, I rarely use vending machines, and I would choose a regular vending machine over one that will constantly bug me with its product recommendations. I don't like product recommendations in any other form, so this would likely be just as irritating.

Oh, I could see it working well if they start mandating sticking us with microchips or something at birth.
But if you think that's bad then you ought to see McDonald's view of 2020 that cames down the pipes on GizModo earlier. |

Those future projections are rarely accurate anyway. Back in the 1950s, people thought we'd be on the moon and Mars with colonies by 2000, with jet-packs, anthropomorphic robots, and possibly teleportation.
I'm not liking that vending machine idea though. I prefer my machines to be impersonal and I greatly value my privacy in life. ____________________ TKB Super Mario Bros. • TKB Super Mario Bros., Volume II

Except its being implemented in Japan, where they already have vending machines that will ask you about the weather via temperature sensors, toilets that thank you for flushing, and other miscellaneous things of that nature. So no, I really doubt that it would flop if that is in fact the intended market. Its also probably good to note that these things aren't super wide-spread either and usually contained to certain areas for demographic purposes, so odds are something like this would be, too. |

To be fair, we do have jet packs!
Also, I find this vending machine pointless, it will just make it take longer for me to get my drink. At this point all I have to do is insert the cash and press the button of the drink I want, quite simple. This makes it sound like I have to go past menus just to get select the drink I want in case it does not happen to be a "recommended" one. ;
