Or will be soon.

About time, I've had to deal with I don't know how many comps that got infected by it.

I honestly thought they all moved on to BitTorrent and sites like RapidShare and MegaUpload... =P

They can't easily stop BitTorrent, since it is often used to distribute Linux distros and other open-source projects. =/

I'm glad it's dead.

And yes, people use it quite often. The amount of computers I have fixed with that fucking software on it is immense.

LimeWire was the shit. That is until I read that internet police were on there 24/7. Then it really was shit. (Of course then came torrents and all that jazz, but those are becoming obsolete as well...)

I believe you forgot Kazaa... now that was the leading cause of viruses and malware back in the day. Anyone remember stuff like Cydoor and B3D fucking up your computer? =P

I never used Kazaa for that reason, it was worse than WinMX in its final days and LimeWire.

I use torrents to find game .iso files, usually. I've found that I'm a lot more successful using Vuze's built-in search instead of Google. I never used the networks like KaZaA and LimeWire. I did use Napster for a while, but the legal version And then I lost my music because I had to reformat my HD too much.

I knew a guy who swore by BearShare as the best filesharing service ever and then wondered why his computer was royally fucked by malware and viruses :specialed:

I started out on Limewire back in the day. Fairly decent at the time, but then I found out about Bittorrent, and like the rest of the world, I never looked back. Good riddance!

I used to use Shareaza back when I was on Windows 98, and it was pretty good for its time... I don't even think it's being updated anymore, AFAIK...

But, when I discovered torrents, I never looked back at those P2P networks. =D

I got my fair share of viruses, most of them were too nasty to deal with and I just ended up reinstalling my PC. Sucked because I had so many programs to reinstall but I hated how even after cleaning the virus from my PC it would still be slower than before. I did like the speed of a fresh install, but it would take 2 nights to get everything back to normal. Fonts, settings, favorites, wallpaper, color schemes... meh.

For everybody who liked Limewire, Frostwire works exactly the same and had much fewer crap files the last time I tried it. Then again, I last tried it probably 4 years ago so who knows how bad it might be nowadays...

In a way though, this is a bad thing. I mean, as shitty as Limewire was, forcing it to go the way of Napster is just another win for the RIAA, and that's no good. Everything that they manage to shut down just gives them yet another precedent to use in court against other forms of filesharing, even if that filesharing is legit. A bunch of torrent sites have already fallen victim to this, with many more in danger of being shut down or taken over. So win for the RIAA = bad for everyone else.

Although the goes without saying like the old one back in the day...

'One fileshare down today, ten up in its place tomorrow'.

May the circle be unbroken.
