Screen isn't even 720p capable, but its only $199 running Android. I was actually looking forward to the HP Slate but they canned it I would prefer a full Windows 7 computer in tablet form, but I can understand why thats difficult.

The Slate would have been doomed to failure. Even with HP's touch software, Windows 7 is not designed to be manipulated that way. Plus the thing was going to be running on a processor that was barely better than the one in the Archos 9 ...
A tablet running Windows would need something way more extensive than just HP's "touchsmart" or whatever layer running on top of things to make it really workable. That's one of the reasons the iPad is as usable as it is -- it's not running an OS that isn't designed for its primary means of manipulation.
As to the iPad knockoffs, of course everyone's going to want to capitalize on its popularity. They might offer "better" specifications but they won't work unless they can adequately match the user experience. I think that's what these companies producing "iPhone killers" and whatnot have got all wrong: it's not what Apple has left in that makes them noteworthy, but rather what they dared to leave out, and yet still managed to produce something that works for a lot of people.

I really can't stand netbooks, the keys are too small and the screen is not big enough for most computing I do. The iPad has a larger screen than most netbooks, which is nice but its still not as big as my laptop screen. The appeal of the iPad is in its interface and controls. Its touch screen, which makes it fun to use. And its simple and fast. Netbooks still give you a computer experience, while the iPad gives you more of a interactive experience. And it is slightly more portable than a netbook, but not enough to say its a huge improvement in that aspect.

I don't know, I used the ipad and found a lot of severe usability problems, like it was hard to hold and type on without having to look, and it was slow to type on compared to the iphone (which also sucks as it is) because it was difficult to reach the center with my thumbs, especially in landscape mode.
All these touchscreen-only interfaces suffer from severe usability issues when you try to use them for anything out of the limited things they're "designed" for, but for the cost of these devices, that limited usability is unacceptable. It would be nice to see a tablet with at least had a Kindle style keyboard, AND NO FUCKING APPSTORE LOCK-IN JESUS FUCK APPLE!
As for OS, it should at least be able to run Linux, but I could see the problem with running Windows since a lot of these are low power ARM devices.
Posting this from an iPad, i must say it's not too bad. The keyboard kind of reverts you to two fingers but that's not so much of a bad thing. The only thing i don't like is it's hard to tell when you make a typo. Competitors are going to have to make something really easy to use to compete with this. It's not about the advancement in the technology inside, but the ease of use and possibilities you get from all the apps. Wish I could own one.

I love the iPad. I only got to use one for a few minutes in Best Buy, but I love it. The keyboard... meh. But it has plenty of games. Not only that, but it truly has an amazing user interface. I know, PCs and Macs have games, but I don't use a computer to game, I use consoles. The iPad would be a movie player (videos from iTunes, other sources, Netflix), gaming (games like Plants vs Zombies HD, NOVA HD, Chaos Rings, Need for Speed, etc), music, web browsing. It would, more or less, be used for everything. Though it wouldn't ever be a replacement for an actual laptop, it would be an amazing device.
Hiryuu: I like that device, it's pretty neat. It'd be good if you wanted a tablet, though it wouldn't be as good as an iPad.
