I recently got my Mac which has an updated version of iTunes installed on it vs. my old PC that has the previous version. When I plug my iPhone into my Mac 95% of the time it doesn't recognize it and a pop up says that it couldn't connect to the iphone and forces me to restore it to factory defaults. It also turns the charging cord on and off at random, which really confuses me because it is new. The thing is that it works fine with my PC...any suggestions?
Try a different USB port or cable, sometimes those can end up being defective. (I've gotten bad connections with a flash drive before, that have resulted in corrupted files. =/)
All of a sudden it just started working again once I reset to factory settings and didn't plug it back into my PC again to get all of my backup data. Could it be that the PC downloads a different code into the iPhone? It was a pain to re-download everything, but it is working fine now...

It also reuploads settings and stuff, and who knows what's validated or not, so there might have been something that got clobbered once and caused problems each time.
In iTunes you can bring up your purchase history, and go back to the app store, and "buy" the apps again. It'll ask something like "This app is already purchased, download for free?" and just hit Yes. Worked for me on my iPhone 3GS when I had to do a restore and didn't back up anything.
It was just a few .99 apps so I really didn't care. Nothing that I needed again, I had played them and moved on. I don't get any useful apps since its just an ipod touch and no 3G connection.
