Ugh, Katy Perry... I've been sick of her ever since "I Kissed a Girl" came out... she disrespects real lesbians with that song... =/

I don't see how its disrespecting, singing about being a hetero girl experimenting while most likely intoxicated. Its nothing different than what was in a lot of those teen/college movies of early 2000s.

"I Kissed A Girl" Lyrics.

This line always bothered me about the song:

Implying that being a lesbian is bad and that all "good girls" are 100% heterosexual.

Plus, where are the actual homosexual love songs, anyway? It seems odd how despite the advances in LGBT rights this millennium, there were more gay and lesbian singers in the 1990s.

Think about majority and religion here. That being taken into perspective and only that perspective, then it is bad.

Just because you are who you are doesn't necessarily mean you should be accepted for it. Gay, straight, asexual, pan or otherwise.

I advise you to be very, very cautious when opening that can of worms.

Look, don't jump on that bandwagon when you know I'm not like that.

I'm just saying that there's a majority and there are opinions. Implying that one set of beliefs is necessarily the best is a bit foolish when there are as many systems of right and wrong as there are people. Don't start labeling me a homophobe when you know I'm not.

It's just the way the world works right now, certain things being stated in songs such as the one described above come with their reasons which I made mention to. Did I necessarily say I agreed with them? At the same time, should I consider it 'disrepectful' when there's plenty of people who would think otherwise?

Considering I deal with plenty of people that have differing thoughts on the matter on a daily basis, that's a hard one no matter how you slice it. We're not quite at that stage yet where everything is accepted...and to that I say deal with it.

What?

It's obviously a reference to how many believe that good girls aren't lesbian.

And maybe even a reference to how just a couple years ago the vast majority believed so. Hell, by the way the song goes it sounds like she is more pulling a punch towards those that think that good girls shouldn't be lesbian, not at the lesbians.

TL;DR: It's disrespectful to homophobes, not lesbians. Just from my point of view though.

I am not labeling you a homophobe. Try not to take it personally for a change.

I am just saying that if you want to say that (especially on this forum, where said people are in the vast minority as far as I can tell), do not be surprised if someone takes it the wrong way.

Hiryuu has a point. Just because you're different doesn't mean you can expect to be accepted that way. This goes for your gender, sexual preference, race, religion, etc. The only thing that is accepted on a wide scale is the norm, and for that norm... "Its not what good girls do". I think that its more of a reference to how people think than a reference what is good or bad. No matter how far society progresses in acceptance of anything non-standard, there will always be a standard and anything new that goes against that standard will be looked upon as "wrong or bad", if not just different.

Kinda hard not to take it personally considering how you phrased it.

Regardless, I wasn't intending on starting a war over something like that and I would have handled it fine without that advice.
