Mentioned this to a few people a while back but here's what we're looking at. (more specifically this.) Compile Heart (read: Cross Edge, Record of Agarest War) vs. Sega.

Record of Agarest War developer Compile Heart is about to announce Hyper Dimension Game Neptune, a console RPG where you control… game consoles.

Neptune is set in the video game business world where Neptune, the protagonist, has to thwart the Goddess Magicon. (note: Magicon are a term used for DS flash carts in Japan.) The twist is Neptune is a video game console, more specifically a moe personified video game console. Basically, you’re a console that can transform into a beautiful girl.

Console wars personified.

Most recently to note is that 'old franchises will be revived' from Sega. There's a very strong consensus that we're looking at Alex Kidd for it.

So from Cross Edge, to Agarest, to this for Compile Heart. gg

Because the world needs more moe shit to fuck up the real anime industry even further.
Why, Japan?

A game about console wars and pirate games... you'd think that'd have been made long ago. Gijinka is far from recent.

I like the sound of it... but hopefuly they keep it at least in a balance between surrealistic and full of meta-humor and telling a serious story.

I mean, Segagaga was awesome, but it seems they are trying to take a little more serious tone with this.

Alternatively, Axis Powers Hetalia with videogames.

I also hope this game has a personification of a NES as a grouchy old ultra macho man complaining about the main characters.

Well, I'm certainly glad to know I wasn't the only one to think Segagaga when I saw this.

I'll admit that there has been a large amount of moé anime over the past few years, saturating a large portion of the anime industry, but the audience is there for it and ratings prove it. Thus, I don't quite understand how it's "fucking up" anything. Sorry, world =/= you.

I guess I don't think about it much. My favorites are mostly from before that happened. Not like US anime ratings are good either. With little sign of a Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds season 3 dub, I believe no new episodes of any series are currently running locally.

Let me rewrite that for you --

Yep, there's nothing like personifying various wars with girls.

Not that I have any issues with it,
but the whole idea is still a little strange

I'm sure EGM referred to the 32X as Mars at some point early on...

These days, I'd say a game like this has a decent chance of coming across the ocean... but 10 years ago, not a chance.

Knuckles Chaotix pretty clearly says "MARS" on the test screen.

Except that is the real anime industry. Why do you think shit like K-On! and such get popular? It isn't because it is new and original, no. It's because it is marketed as such.

Anime is about money nowadays, regardless of what you may think. That is it. It sells. The whole community involves buying things regarding their favorite anime and it practically reeks of a lack of imagination.

It's disappointing how they don't summon videogame characters look-alikes...

According to reports from Japanese blogs, characters from Golden Axe, Alex Kidd, Ashura (reskinned as Rambo: First Blood in the States), Fantasy Zone, Altered Beast, Shinobi, Penguin Land, and Space Harrier are in Neptune.
