'Pirates' No Longer of the Caribbean

The good news: Captain Jack Sparrow, the breakout star of the film franchise played by Johnny Depp, is back. Also, Penelope Cruz has signed on to play a love interest for Sparrow. The not-so-good news: director Gore Verbinski and the overwhelming majority of the big-name cast is not returning -- including Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.

If you can't bring back the entire cast, its not worth making the movie. They should just scrap the 4th one all together. I liked the series because of all the characters. Sure the story was a little weird and overplayed, but they're fun movies. It won't be nearly as good as the others without the whole cast, they worked well together.

They are making another one?

I was content with the end of the series after the first movie, and to be honest, the other two can't top the first one.
And now without most of the staff I honestly don't think this is going to be a good idea, honestly.

Yeah seriously, this thing worked fine as a trilogy, or hell even as just a single film. It REALLY does not need a fourth at all, and with most of the cast being gone, and focusing on Jack Sparrow and his "love interest" this movie is just going to take a huge shit on the franchise.

Hopefully this one involves Jack Sparrow going to AA and realizing the other movies were a drunken fantasy, hence the lack of the returning cast.

I disagree. I want the fourth movie. I would wait for it to come out, watch it and then pass judgement on it. But then again, I might be biased, I'm a huge Jack Sparrow fan.

I'll probably see it anyway, just because I always do. But I never liked the idea of spinoff movies. I prefer the entire cast return. Like with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It did ok, mainly because Wolverine is the most bad ass X-Men and just about everyone's favorite. But I would have preferred another X-Men movie with everyone.

I will say how Jack Sparrow was portrayed was excellent in all 3 films and he'll probably be genius in the next one, too.

This is old news. Honestly, it wouldn't make any sense to have their characters in a new movie. We already know what they do for the next 10 years and I can guarantee you they won't spend their time after being reunited with Jack Sparrow.

That's it! Crash the concept into the ground! Also, we need King Kong 2, and Toy Story 70, and also Little Mermaid 3: Godzilla attacks!

You forgot "Shrek 9000: over Ninethousand of adventures!"

Really, i have the same feeling, there is no need to get back a past movie.

You know, I completely forgot that the 3rd movie ended with him becoming the captain of the Dutchman and having to ferry the dead. Makes sense they wouldn't use them, but I think they could have made it work even if the budget cuts hadn't gone through.

I will say that it has me wanting to see the movie. Looks pretty nice and while it's a shame that Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley aren't returning, I think Depp can probably carry it on his own pretty well. At least Sparrow's character looks as charming as ever.

This movie looks great. Seems to pack a lot of punch that we wanted from the 2nd and third but were just led around by our noses by stupid plot devices and an ultimately uninteresting conclusion. Orlandu Bloom and Keira Knightley were probably the weakest characters of the trilogy since they were wet blankets compared to the more fun Jack Sparrow. Also Ian McShane as Blackbeard! Rock on!

This one looks like it's gonna be good fun. 2 and 3 were a huge letdown.

Yeah after seeing the new trailer, I retract my earlier statement made months ago. This looks more like what the second film should have been. Just good natured fun without a bunch of stupid shit weighing down everything. I'll give this a chance. Hell, I've already forgotten most of 2 and 3 anyway.

Umm... There IS a Little Mermaid 3. It is called "Ariel's Beginning." Now, if you shall excuse me, i need to go reevaluate my life for knowing that little piece of trivia.

Oh, and the new Pirates movie looks like it is going to suck.

I heard on a TV program that deals with movies that both Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swan) and Orlando Bloom (William "Will" Turner, Jr) decided not to return to the film series because they considered both there character to be done with storyline wise.
