...and has GPU-acceleration for it.

Also claims way better support than leading browsers.

Whether or not the IE9 demo is a bulky, slow piece of crud is the question.

what

I think this may just cause the universe to implode.
(Also, I think you mean a bulky, slow, insecure and buggy piece of crud.)

Won't convince me unless it gets incredibly positive review from not only reviewers but actual users too, including you guys and even then I'm probably still not going to switch. We'll see.

If it loads as fast as Chrome does, I will revert to IE usage. If, as you said, it is a bloated, bulky, slow, overrated, insecure, buggy, troublesome, makes you need therapy, piece of crud, then I will steer clear.

It may very well support HTML5, CSS3, etc, but that won't mean a thing when designing Web pages since so many people are still in IE 6 and 7.

Well I think it's safe to say I won't be switching, because I have a funny feeling there won't be a Linux port any time soon.

microsoft should just "update" IE6 so that when the update is applied, trying to start it yells at you to upgrade. same for iE7.

Also my Shift key seems to be acting funky.

They can't just force-upgrade everyone from IE6, since many companies have internal web applications that only work in specific versions of it and two versions can't co-exist. (No, IE7's laughable compatibility mode doesn't help.) IE6 really did permanently damage a number of things. I suppose the only thing they could do is somehow package it up into a standalone program, so it can be used alongside a newer version.

Is it a Microsoft shift key? Maybe you need to change it to a Chrome or Opera shift key...

But I agree. Using an old OS is one thing, but using an old browser is opening yourself up to exploitation. It should be mandatory to upgrade IE6 at least to IE8 and maybe within a year to upgrade IE7 to IE9.

They still need to make IE9 pass the Acid3 test though. It's nice that it knows all of HTML5 and CSS3, but these aren't yet deployed widely, so it has little practical use.

Next year, it'll likely be a battle between Opera 11, Chrome 5/6, Firefox 4, and IE 9... once Acid3 is passed completely by all major browsers, we'll have to worry about a future Acid4 test...

I'll have to check the Acid3 results of the latest Firefox 3.7 alpha, just to see where Gecko's at... (I think it's like 97 or 98 right now, so almost there...)

Pretty sure we're here already. Didn't Opera and Chrome already get 100%?

Firefox is already at 97% in the latest alpha, but the stable 3.6 is only 92%... but yea, Opera and Chrome are already at 100%. =P

Last I checked, IE's down below 60% of a market share and Google Chrome is on a steep rise. Up to 9%. FF is at 25% and Opera is one of the worst for people using it.

Internet Explorer 9 won't run on XP either, and guess which OS still has more usage share than Windows Vista and 7 combined Not that I really care, since I didn't even upgrade from Internet Explorer 6 (why bother if I don't use it) ...

I'd hope it'll at least score well on Acid3 (55% isn't enough) by the time it's released, and won't suck as much to code HTML/CSS for

IE 9 won't appear on XP, so they just lost themselves the chance to have me using it solely for Youtube videos.

Suckers.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Microsoft has made grandiose claims and not lived up to them before.
