Actually, I really don't have anything to complain about with it. I just thought the title was suitable since Google owns Youtube and we recently went through the changes there.

I like it, looks sharper and more web 2.0 to me but has the same general feel. It'll take some getting used to, but theres not really anything bad about it.

I like it. Seems a lot more simpler and easier to use. Although it's a small thing, but I noticed they have the images and maps links both at the top of the page as well as the sidebar.

Hardly original but I see nothing wrong with it.

I just noticed it right now... unfortunately, it'll take a while to get used to for me... after being used to the classic Google Search for so long... =/

Having those new unreadable buttons on YouTube was bad enough, now I'm stuck with them on Google too ... and did they really need to make the text even bigger? (I feel like I have to zoom out now)

The sidebar in search results is only going to waste screen space as well, but that's not so bad since there was plenty of empty space on the right

Hm, they hadn't changed the main page last I looked. Pretty sad that even Google manages to repeatedly make that mistake.

I actually don't mind the new search, though it'll take some getting used to.

I don't mind it.

Looks much cleaner now. And it surfaces functionality that used to be hidden on the search page.

What do you mean by unreadable? I can see them just fine. Do they look different on other browsers?

The left pane keeps throwing me off and making me think I'm using Yahoo! Search instead of Google (I use Yahoo! Search occasionally).

I'm not a fan of some of the changes over the years that try to make Google "smarter" by second-guessing you. Like you type in "kitties" and they assume you misspelled "kittens" and actually only give results for the correction, not the thing you typed in, unless you use the + sign. It was better in the old days when it was only the "Did you mean: kittens" thing at the top.

Unreadable on my dark color scheme (in Windows), since it sets a light background but no text color (defaults to white here) ...

For some reason, I still get an older layout when I try with Internet Explorer 6, so that (or IETab) might be an alternative, but it seems a bit silly and might not always work

Set your default colours to white text, black background. Browse around and see the amazing number of sites that fail. Youtube, Cheezburger, now even Google.

I guess next they'll replace the search button with a button that triggers a Javascript event, making the button not work if you have JS turned off. That's the next step in web design failure.

Web sites' overreliance on JavaScript is why I generally gave up with NoScript before (I installed it recently to combat possible Jul hackers). I've even seen Web sites use JavaScript for links that could easily just use good old <a> tags

Also, javascript:history.back(); is fucking useless. Usually when I use a Web site's "Back" link rather than my actual browser's Back button, it's because I searched or was directly linked deep in the Web site's hierarchy and I want to go up 1 level in the hierarchy, whereas Back will take me back to Google or Jul or whatever. Why do Web developers still assume that everyone access Web pages from the site index every time?

Argh. I really don't like this, the larger text doesn't bother me and I can see the buttons just fine (maybe it's the theme that you're using Acmlm...) but it's the sidebar really annoys me as it serves absolutely no purpose and just gets in the way. I mean...

Compare the sidebar to the menu at the top of the screen. Is there any difference? No. Is there any need for the sidebar being there then? Absolutely not? So why is it there? Because Google doesn't know how leave good things the way they are and insist on changing everything, even if it makes it worse .

I know a lot of people might disagree with me but I'm sorry, I've been really annoyed by some of these unnecessary changes lately and this one just pushed me over the edge...

Yeah the sidebar is absolutely pointless. Worst idea they had.

Also, it seems you can no longer go directly to the language tools from the search results page. That's a bummer.

Well they had to add a sidebar. Otherwise it wouldn't look exactly like Bing!

...oh wait, that would be a good thing...

I have nothing against the new google layout... then again I don't think it's any better then the old one... ;

And as acmlm pointed out, that's a quite big flaw there. :/

Well then use a regular color scheme!

I think they need to do the same thing with the side bar that they did with the image search. Make it a feature you can expand or collapse. I'm fine with it but I can see where it's annoying for some people with smaller resolutions.

Hasn't it been this way for a while? I didn't care for it at all when it first did it but now I'm able to tolerate it. I kind of like how image search can narrow things by color and other things, but other than that its nothing too impressive. One of the first times I don't completely hate the changes to a website I use frequently (Facebook, Youtube, I'm looking at you)

Some people like dark schemes. I use a default one, but it's customizable for a reason.

Aside from that, the sidebar drives me nuts. I'm used to scrolling down with my mouse in a certain spot to click things, the sidebar now takes up that spot. Honestly, if they just put the sidebar on the right side of the screen rather than the left, I'd have no problem, but where it is it's just annoying.
