| I want to hack a Pokemon game for DS. Any version is fine, as long as it's possible to entirely hack it. Does anyone know of any tools or editors, or does it need to be done the hard way? If the latter, would anyone have any tips or tricks for me? Please and thank you =D |

The first thing is to use google. V_v;
As I know for a FACT that people talk about this stuff at another place. :/

Well that doesn't help. First off, I posted here because it's the hacking sub-forum on Jul. People hack here, right?Secondly, I did a Google search on top of posting here. You didn't think I kept all my eggs in the same basket, did you? XP I actually found a bunch of tools, but only one for HG/SS (the series I ideally want to hack), which is a Gym Battle editor (Allows you to edit the pokemon of the 16 gym leaders, elite fours, and Red).

Thanks a lot. I'll definitely look into this =D |

I don't know any specific tools, but I have seen them floating around.
It's kinda weird because they all seem to have one purpose and one purpose only.
There were ones to ~
change the starter pokemon
change the evolution paths
change the text
change the color of the main trainer person
change other assorted things
Good luck hunting them all down (and with your hack)

The item graphics are stored in GBA format, as are their pallets within the same file (each pallet is located right before its respective item, I believe. Either that or right after, I'm sure you'll figure it out), so you can at least use TLP or the like to hack those to your heart's content the status screen graphics (the little Pokemon icons for boxes, party screen, etc) are also in GBA format, as for the pallets I imagine they may be as well though as for how/where they are stored, well, what I can tell you is there's only about several unique pallets for those. |

I've been wanting to 'hack' my Heart Gold game so I can increase the wild Pokemon and trainer levels throughout Johto and Kanto... Then again, I'm lazy
Good luck on your hack, and do check PokeCommunity. |

^yeah, so I've noticed XD
It's actually pretty resourceful =D Thanks a bunch. Found some good tools there in the toolbox. Almost enough to start my hack. The one major tool I need before I start though is a Map Editor. I can't seem to find one. I DID see one called Elite Map, but it's for the GBA games. Can anyone has help meh? Please and thanks. |

| Elitemap is somewhat flawed and bulky in a lot of ways. But yeah, to my knowledge there is no map editor for the DS games yet. I imagine the format isn't anything TOO complex, but I couldn't tell you for certain |

| apparently it's epic. Most of the world is 3D, and the hackers are having a hard time with creating an editor. @.@ I did find a tutorial for editing the player sprite though...so, a little light to my gloomy news. |

| actually the world is 2d, as far as i can tell, with a "camera" set to give it that 3d effect. it had 3d objects on the field such as houses etc. but things like ground and trees look like tiles to me. I haven't done enough research yet to confirm any of this but I do know removing or disabling the camera in some way will make the maps look much like Gen. 3's tile-based maps in terms of perspective. |

Actually, someone has built a viewer to display the 3D maps in the games. So it's definitely 3D.
I get the feeling that height data is defined in a similar way to the GBA games, though.

Ah, very interesting then. I imagine it can't be anything TOO complicated, however, considering how basic things appear. Though, this is GameFreak we're talking about, they aren't exactly known for programming things in a manner that makes sense (the Gen 1 games, the Hoenn Pokemon indexes, just to name a few ) so they could have easily made things in such a way that while it works, would not be obvious to people trying to edit the games. |

| I think a lot of the trouble is with the different interactions and effects the 3D models have, besides just being 3D (which is a problem within itself, in terms of hacking). |
