I had one (1) message in Discord deleted and proceeded to make a huge, huge mess about how it was a violation of free speech and how moderators are supposed to be spam janitors and nobody should have the right to tell me not to talk about school shootings

Well, it's fixed already (or so they claim), but this is still a pretty good fail.

Some people post way too much information on there, which has lead to crime and burglary. I just play the games and post comments on pictures, stuff like that. I don't go as far to say, "I'm out visiting someone right now, which means my house is empty..."

And I don't post private information or chat about private things, which many people do it seems.

Makes me glad I don't use Facebook.

I'll stick with my Web 1.0 message boards, IM, and IRC I've somewhat considered Twitter to talk to a few people who aren't active at Jul, but then I usually think about it again and decide against it.

This assume that they aren't already using MSN/AIM though, because in that case you might as well stay there.

And no, I haven't gotten a Facebook yet and I'd rather not get one. Just out of principle. This exploit here is hilarious though.

Also, SURPRISE: you don't have to follow people who post a lot! It's all up to you! WOW! Fucking mindblowing, right?!

Twitter is kind of useless and is for the obsessive compulsive people who have to know every detail of someone or let everyone else know every detail about themselves.

Facebook just lets you do it in more than 140 characters But it does do more.

I figure if I need to get a hold of any one that I deal with on a regular basis anyways, there's IM and my cellphone.

Twitter, to me, comes off as a novelty fueled by celebrities.

Let's see. Things I don't use:
* AIM/MSN/whatever
* Twitter
* Facebook
* MySpace (Never, ever used it, even when it was popular)

It's message boards, email, and IRC or bust for me. All this new-fangled stuff is just crippled versions of what I already use.

AIM's considered new-fangled? It's like a decade and a half old...not counting its oldstyle OLMs that you could use when you were a subscriber before AOL was known as AOL (read: Quantum Link).

Some of us don't need FarmVille or whatever games they have, or Super Pokes, or any of that other crap people use Facebook's apps for.
Nor do all of us need "fan pages" for everything.

I'll put it to you this way.
"Facebook is where you go to talk to the people you went to school with. Twitter is where you go to talk to the people you WISH you went to school with."

It's perfectly usable for chatting with others, despite what you may think.

But then, I do realize that some of you are completely unwilling to move forward from your 1998-era software and Web sites and love to loudly proclaim that anything that deviates even slightly from that is pure trash and evil (OH NO I HAVE TO CLICK TWICE TO GET SOMEPLACE I ONLY HAD TO CLICK ONCE TO GET TO BEFORE THIS IS SO HORRIBLE!!!!!), so whatever.

Off topic: I find facebook very valuable to my everyday life. Not just for friends, but I have a lot of connections in whom I keep in contact with. Business wise and family wise. Facebook to me is what Myspace wasn't. It's professional, etiquette, and formal (Depending on the person on the other end mind you). It has brought me jobs I never would have gotten, and it also has gotten me in contact with people I should be in contact with.

So before anyone shits on how Facebook is full of shit: Mind you there are other people out on the internet who use it for their personal and business life. Thanks.

As for this security hole. Glad it is patched and all. But the only people who seem to do this are people trying to dig into personal information from their employers.

Thankfully Darden does not do this -- I hope. Well, I have no hope cause I have not talked shit about my job. Only the people who come to my job to eat.

I don't hate society. I just hate people. Fuck people.

Back in my day, er, 1998, it was brand new. And we hated it!

Well, no, I disliked it then while everyone else used it. :shrug:

Well, the OLMs were even older, but I didn't list those as things I don't use.

In any case, my main complaint with AIM isn't it being new (it just got thrown in because I dislike it), rather I dislike people intruding on my work with AIM's ability to pop up and go 'YOU HAVE AN INSTANT MESSAGE STOP DOING ANYTHING PRODUCTIVE AND ARGUE ABOUT A MARIO SITE NOW'

Ironically, I like using a variety of Web 2.0 things inside the actual sites I make, I just hate how it's implemented by the social networking/communication sites.

The only thing I have Facebook for is the times when someone in my family needs to get my attention and for some reason won't dial my phone number.

Somewhat unamusingly the only thing I ever do with it is click "Hide updates from latest farmville ripoff here".

   I have Facebook! The last time I've visited the site is last year, though, probably. I only have it because of dump people who won't get anything other then the crappy Facebook chat (yay for Miranda integration).
I've disabled all email notifications, so I'm fine.

In any sane OS you should be able to just activate focus stealing prevention and have the window pop up in the background. Alternately all the good clients have an option to not pop up a window but just blink the tray icon. You can also use Pidgin and keep one IM window open at all times; others will then just appear in the window instead of popping up.

Or click the window, minimize it, and deal with it later. Same deal.
